10 Fun Facts About Hidden Figures (2016) That You Had No Clue About

in #movies7 years ago

Hi movie marauders! Hidden Figures was released December 25, 2016, and got a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. I really enjoyed this movie, and the story it told. This film was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, and it made $230 million at the Box Office. The cast and performances were amazing, and I think it was one of the best films of the year. Let's take a look at some fun facts about Hidden Figures!

1. Director Theodore Melfi was considered for directing Spider-Man: Homecoming, but chose to direct Hidden Figures instead.

2. The problem with the restrooms was not actually Katherine Johnson's (played by Taraji P. Henson) problem, but Mary Jackson's (played by Janelle Monae) in real life.

3. The characters Vivian Mitchell (played by Kirsten Dunst) and Paul Stafford (played by Jim Parsons) were made up to represent the attitudes of some of the co-workers.

4. Taraji P. Henson met with the real Katherine Johnson (98 years old) to talk about her life (Johnson is the only one alive out of the 3 main characters). Henson discovered that Johnson graduated high school at 14 years old and college at 18 years old.

5. In the Mercury Mission Control set, a lot of the control console props were originally created for the Mission Control Room in Apollo 13 (1995). These control console props were also altered to be used in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.

6. John Glenn (played by Glen Powell) was actually 41 years old during the launch, compared to Powell who was 27 years old during filming.

7. In real life, Katherine Johnson's children were actually teenagers when she got married to Jim Johnson.

8. Hidden Figures is Kirsten Dunst's (who plays Vivian) highest grossing film in the United States besides the Spider-Man movies (where she plays Mary Jane Watson).

9. This film marks the 3rd time Octavia Spencer (who plays Dorothy Vaughn) to star alongside of a Spider-Man actress (The Help-Bryce Dallas Howard (Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man 3)/Emma Stone (Gwen Stacey in The Amazing Spider-Man 1&2), Spider-Man (2002)-Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson).  Octavia Spencer had a small cameo in Spider-Man (2002).

10. The set that was used as Dorothy Vaughn's house is actually a historic house where Martin Luther King and Ralph Abernathy met in real life.
