Today on our list of the Bizarre fruits and vegetables around the world series features a fruit which is becoming more and more famous around the world lately!
Hoping to get the name of this fruit quite quick this time!
Originally native to Mexico, this fruit was later transplanted to Central America. Nowadays they are cultivated mainly in South East Asia, United States, Israel and the Canary Islands among others.
Here is the different varieties fo this fruit! Beautiful colors!
I am sure you gonna guess it rapidly this time! Yes the fruit comes from a cactus tree! That's how it looks like on it's tree.
This fruit's texture is sometimes compared to kiwi due to it's black and crunchy seeds! The flesh is mildly sweet and low in calories. I just love this fruit!
The fruit seeds have a nutty taste and the flesh is usually converted in juices or wine! The flowers too are edible and used in tea infusion!

Dragon fruit. It's tastes nice but the flavour is mild.
Exactly! Dragon fruit or also well known as pitaya. You are right about the flavor, I've tried them in different places of the world, they taste same as us said mild. Thanks for checking by!
Just had a purple dragon fruit as an afternoon snack! Just love the texture of it!
The texture is just amazing! We can do magic with it in the kitchen! I've usually used them in salads and carpaccio, just seasoned with olive oil, salt, olive oil, fresh lime! Just unbelievable!
Interesting. never used them in salads! Thanks for the tip!
I'm sure you'll just love it! Very refreshing!

Hello chef, very colorful post.
Thanks a lot @knowledge1!
I love dragon fruit. It's very rare if I can find it where I live though.
It's was quite rare in Mauritius too some years back, but nowadays we have fields of it in many places!
I know it as dragonfruit. When I lived in Arizona, I rode my bike through a lot of alleyways -- and could find this fruit dropping off of plants that people were ignoring. I got to enjoy quite a few this way. I've never seen them in any alleyways, living here in Oregon's Willamette Valley now, though, lol. They are such a fun fruit to find! So refreshing! I always ate them straight up plain, but I like your idea of "salt, olive oil, fresh lime"!
Many people were ignoring that fruit, maybe because it is from cactus plant! Oh shame that you can't see them now!
My brother in law who is a planter, specialized in lettuces and tomatoes, has just started a try on Dragon Fruit. I hope it adapts to the climate and hopefully get some fruits! I will follow up closely!
That lemon acidity gives it a real kick!
Best of luck to your brother-in-law in growing and marketing the dragon fruit! They are such a pretty fruit - and delicious!
Next time I see it I am definitely going to try it. I am on the canary islands right now ☺
That's great dear! Make sure to taste it, you will enjoy for sure
