Do you know the importance of the liver to your body?

in #liver6 years ago

The liver is a very important organ of the body, and members of the digestive system, the largest gland of the glands of the body, we can call it the kitchen of the body, where it does more than many of the vital functions of the body (about 500 jobs), can be divided and abbreviated to:

1- Manufacturing functions

In which the liver manufactures various substances of interest to the body such as:

Albumin, which maintains the blood pressure of the blood, prevents the exit of fluids in the blood outside the blood vessels. Therefore, if there is a shortage of albumin in the blood, the patient becomes swollen in the feet, and collects water in the peritoneal membrane, and this is called ascites.

  • Producing proteins containing important elements of the body such as iron, copper and coagulation factors, the most famous are prothrombin, fibrinogen and anticoagulants, the most famous of which are protein C, S protein and thrombin III.

2. Conversion functions

In which the liver converts a substance into another substance such as converting the ammonia resulting from the breakage of proteins into urea that the kidneys get rid of in the urine. Therefore, when the liver fails, the ammonia can accumulate in the blood and reach the brain, causing hepatic coma. The liver also converts cholesterol to bile salts that help digest and absorb fats and vitamins dissolved in fat. It also converts fatty and protein substances into sugars when needed through an interaction called glucose build-up (Gluconogenesis).

3 - storage functions

  • The liver stores glycogen glycogen through an interaction called glycogenesis, which helps in fasting periods by breaking glycogen back into glucose through an interaction called glycolysis.

  • Copper, iron and dissolved vitamins are stored in fatty substances (ie vitamins K, E, D, A), as well as dissolved in water (composite vitamin B) (such as riboflavin, nicotinamide, pyridoxine, and folic acid).

  • The liver also stores some toxic substances and drug residues that can not be broken and secreted to the outside through the bile duct.

  • Cleaning functions

  • The liver cleanses the blood from harmful substances such as yellow matter, which is produced from cracking red blood cells after the old age and reach the estimated life of about 3 months, where the liver picks up this substance from the blood and get rid through the channels of gallbladder to reach the intestine and descend with the stool.

  • The liver also removes alcohol and some drugs by cracking and converting to raw materials or linked to some proteins and secretion through bile ducts.

E - immune functions
In which the liver helps the body to defend itself, where the liver contains a group of immune cells that filter the blood coming from the intestine loaded with bacteria and microbes eliminate them and prevent access to different parts of the human body.
