Life is too short – Stay healthy and escape the rat race

in #life7 years ago

We as humans are not suppose to spend the majority of our lives working 8-12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.

Our lives are short!

If you are fortunate enough, you will live until 80. Is it enough? 80 years of living? Well, it's not really 80 years because first 20 years of your live, you are a child and most likely live with your parents which means that you can't do about 90% of stuff that you would like to do and you probably don't even remember first 10-15 years of your life.

Now there is 60 years of your life left. Hmm..let me think, due to spreading of lifestyle diseases, you won't probably fully live last 10 years of your life because of dementia, Alzheimer, some kind of cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc..the list is really long. You might end up lying on the bed or in better case just having limited movement.

Now we have 50 years of your life. 50 years is OK, it is enough. Well, you also have to sleep...you probably sleep about 8 hours a day, which is 2920 hours per year and that's about 1/3 of your life. 2/3 of 50 is about 33 years.

Is 33 years enough for living? Also subtract the 1.5 year spent in the bathroom and 2.5 years of cooking (from my point of view are these unpleasant activities).

So now we have 29 years of living. I haven't talked about work yet, have I? There are people who work 8-12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. So let's say 10 hours per day, 5.5 days a week in average that's 2860 hours per year and that's another 1/3 of your life.

In the end, the average person, who is stuck in the rat race has about 19 years of life left for doing things that he or she loves. I would say it's even less, but I already feel depressed and don't want to subtract any more years.

19 years is NOT enough! Come on guys, increase that number, I know you can!

  1. Take care of your health.
You can prevent most of the lifestyle diseases by exercising daily, eating healthy and avoiding stress.
  2. Escape the rat race.
You have endless options in today's world. You can literally do anything, you just have to pursuit it. Make a plan - educate yourself – execute the plan. If you won't succeed for the first time, don't give up! Try again, maybe with different plan this time.

Great post @suzzane ! I'm sorta living proof of your advice... I'm 57 and retired (aka got off the treadmill) 10 years ago when I was just 47. Though no plan is "bullet-proof," thus far, for the last ten years I've been doing exactly what I want - when I want - and answer to no one but the taxman and the utility bills.... Following & Upvoted....

Thank you @passion-ground ! And congrats, you are one of the chosen ones..;) :D Unfortunately, not many people manage to escape the rat race ever which is really sad. But they are creaters of their own destiny. I couple times tried to help some "sheeple" to find/create some opportunity, which could help them escape the rat race. All of them gave up really soon and got back to their "comfortable" life. Following back..;)

Thank ou very much @chelsea88 ;)

That's a great way to put things in perspective. The last year or so I've been working on getting out of the 9-5 grind and find ways to make things I enjoy doing profitable. I think if a person can provide for themselves or even thrive doing something they enjoy, that's the best avenue. Thanks for posting this :)

Thank you for your opinion @andypalooza..;) Living should fulfill people's hearts and not to annoy them because they have to work most of their lives. Most people live only during weekend, when they got drunk and compensate for the days of the week. I escaped rat race when I was 21 and I travel and live the fullest since. ;)

Lots of interesting facts in here. A related topic would be driving. I commute 1 hr each way to work. I'm compensated well but the two hours of driving is hell sometimes. I figured out that just for work alone, I spend 480 hours in my car every year (2hrs per day) (40hr per month). This then equates to 20 DAYS a year in.my.car. That is too much! If I didn't exercise I would've went postal by now

There is more to subtract from that, but I was feeling really depressed by the data I found on the internet and when I started thinking about how I spend my days... Even though I live the dream life right now, there are still aspects that I can change in order to enjoy it even more..;) btw I don't drive a car, I ride a bike, walk or run..;)

I am a big time runner.
There's no way i can bike 42 miles to work though. I'd never arrive in time. Those methods of locomotion don't work when you have a crazy commute

Thanks for the advices , I´ll read this books for sur :)

You are welcome @shoshin !
I hope you will like the books...Robert Kyiosaki has many great books. I also liked Business of 21st Century, which is book mostly about MLM. but really good..;)
