Steemit - Finally Some Humanity

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Usually on #grumpymonday , no, that's not a real tag yet but it ought to be, I bemoan the fact that this wonderful platform has too much 'look at me' and not enough 'how are you?'. This still holds true and I'll come to that later BUT, there is a light at the end of the hyperloop...I've just come across a community and organisation that actually exists to help other people. Yesss radical isn't it? I've just read how they sent 70SBD directly to an orphanage in Ghana to buy books and pencils for the kids.

'What?', I hear you cry. "Real money? they didn't just pray for them or tell them that they were in their thoughts?".
No, they sent them real, direct help in cash.

Now we're all aware of these huge charitable organisations, or NGO's that rush into war zones or earthquakes or start massive multi-million dollar irrigation schemes..yes the same ones that also organise sex parties and pay their top execs hundreds of grand a year, those ones, and to be fair, they do have their place but direct action giving for me is real grassroots humanitarianism, helping people directly. Making a huge difference to a human's life for a very tiny amount of money in as fast a time as possible. If you see someone who needs help now. You help them. How cool is that?

Allow me to introduce @sircork who runs a community here called @youarehope and they organise direct action giving for people and organisations all over the world such as the Ghanaian Orphanage run by @kofpato. At this point, I'll also give a shout out to @maverickinvictus and his @giftinkindph organisation he's just started. Another top member and Steem legend in the making.

So, back to Ghana for a second. Here is the link to their dtube video they created to garner support. Notice how it made all of $12.41?

Now look at this video of a new member who has posted 4 videos, including one where she makes her own version of Egg McMuffins and another where she tells us there needs to be more women into crypto...kerching! £1200....

See where I'm going with this? Yup, straight back to #grumpymonday, but on a thursday! Them bairns in Ghana could have millions of coloured pencils and a couple of laptops for that sort of coin, and why did this new lady with the unoriginal badly written dross end up trending and earning the GNP of a small pacific island in just 4 posts ?
Who knows ? I mean seriously, another attractive young white girl cooking eggs....why would @dtube give her 4 huge upvotes ? Obviously the artistic and cutting-edge content I assume, in a similar fashion to that Korean girl who likes taking pics of tourist attractions and the lady who likes to surf who gets a lot of support from certain whales. I wonder if they could help out a worthy cause?

Anyway, how can we all support communities like @youarehope ? Go there, read, learn and upvote. That's not difficult, or if you can spare a couple hundredths of an sbd, make a little donation. This is where the blockchain comes into its own. There will be no middleman slicing his cut. The money goes directly where it should and as for a final bit of context; if you gave a 0.10 upvote....you've not actually done much physically but you've put a pencil into a kids hand and a huge smile on his or her face......how good is that? :-)

Thanks for dropping by. Your Upvotes and Resteems are gratefully received but your comments and engagement are truly appreciated. Let's keep up the debate. Thank you

Good Post @Nathen007
I'll check those pages out soon.
In a shameless plug, I run projects in the Middle East, mainly Iraq and Turkey, to support education and promote STEM.
Feel free to check out my into on this site.

Thats bloody great mate, ill give it a resteem. Best wishes to you. This is the sort of stuff I'm looking for on Steemit but sadly gets lost in the huge swathes of shite!

Great post! That's why I am here and not on Instagram.

Not sure how I feel about all the Instagram crew and their "look at me" stories coming here. But they are the lesser of two evils I guess.

I will follow the people you mentioned. My only concern is the creation of online begging or sob stories. And we still have the problem of needing a trusted third party to complete the final leg of the journey from steemit to real money for the people who need it.

Maybe a charity vote where we content creators can agree to donate a percentage of our upvotes to good causes? Is that possible?

I had all the same feelings @kabir88. I'd love to give, but I'm held back by potenlial falsities. I feel like it's very hard to trust anyone, so I'm more likely to look at situations right in front of me. Of course, I want all children to be able to hold a pencil, maybe after charities have become more established?

Appreciate the shout out man and I don't think I'm going to be a legend hahha.

I'm just a redfish trying to learn his way and support endeavours I care about.

That is why I want the focus to be on @giftinkindph. My wish is even if I am gone it would still provide hope to the kids on Banawen.

Get the page running mate, I've always tried to support school kids there on a direct level and through some of the 5 dollar a month sponsorship style schemes. Get some photos up and tell the stories. People ought to be throwing money at you :-)

The situation we found ourselves in the world whereby those that have in abundance prefer to spend on frivolities rather than help the needy is so disheartening.

I always strive to ensure i help at least 5 underprivileged per month, i hope to do more.

Kindly support and promote my charity projects here

Great post chief, and thanks for the wake up call. It really helps to shift the me-me-me to humanity. Pushing humanity forward, that's what technologies like Steemit has enabled us to do. But we still got to do the pushing.

Steemit is the technology that gives us the tools to do this but unfortunately, there are still too many people using these tools exclusively to forward their own agenda. Sometimes I despair as a wander this community and read whats written. Thanks to you are your ilk however for giving me some positive balance! Take care mate and my continued best wishes to your and your little fella :-)

I just found/read this post. I want to point out that those 4 posts are not in any way all that define who I am as a person and what my values/beliefs are. My intentions are not to make money. I simply just want to write about things I like and hope that it remotely interests others. Although you went incredibly surface level about me, I have depth to who I am as a person. I don't feel as though I need to defend entirely who I am and what my life story was but I believe in giving back and giving hope, ESPECIALLY to children. I regularly volunteer, currently am in the works of developing my own company to give back to others actually, donate to charities, and have a heart. I am sorry that I received those large upvotes and that it upset you but I hope you have a great day and continue to support great causes.

I am now following @youarehope and follow along their mission. Additionally plan to donate some SBD when I can figure out my transfers. Thank you for bringing this organization to my attention!
