Basics of Steem (Part 09) : Steemit Account Key Management
INTRO
INTROThe Tron Fan Club is a specialized community working on some specific topics. As a moderator of the community, I am regularly sharing several tutorials to help newbies. In this series of tutorials, I am trying to share the basic issues of Steem blockchain.
This is so simple tutorial but very important for the newbies. I am trying to share basic issues of steemit sequentially for the newbies so that they can find a guideline from first to last on steemit. In this 5 posts of security issues I am writing on security issues. This is fourth part on security issues where I am going to share about key management like revealing keys and changing password.
REVEALING KEYS:
Step 01: First of all go the your steemit wallet.
Step 02: Click on Login button and use Private active keys to login to your steemit account's wallet.
Step 03: Here you can find a tab named Keys and Permissions.
Step 04: Here a tutorial post's link is given to you. You can go to this post by clicking on the link to know in details about keys and steemit account security issues.
Step 05: This is that post which will guide you in details about key management and account security of steemit.
Step 06: From the above tabs you can find your required keys. In each and every case you have to reveal keys separately. You can see the permissions of each key in the right hand side of this page as well.
CHANGING PASSWORD:
Step 07: By clicking on change password button you can change password. As it is automated and no where the password & keys are recorded so you have to change or store your keys at your own risk. Here, in this page, you have to fill the fields and then click on Update Password button. Once it is generated, your password will be updated and with the same time your previous passwords will be obsoleted.
ACCOUNT RECOVERY:
Step 08: If your owner key is stolen then your ownership of account is at threat. You will be given 30 days to claim your account. In previous page you can find the link of going to the page Account Recovery option like below.
Step 09: You can see the suggestion of 30 days and guideline regarding account recovery. For that you have to set your recovery account earlier. As my password is not stolen and not changed recently its showing unable to recover. But for stolen case, it will ask for recovery.
CREATING COMMUNITY:
From that Steemit Wallet option, you can create community as well. Its so simple.
STEEMCONNECT and KEYCHAIN
For easy access to your account, you can use Steemconnect website or Keychain extension. Both the ways are safe. You can provide your key securely to SteemConnect Website which is trusted but you have to ensure the address bar whather it is Steemconnet website or not because there are some fake pages where they are showing similar to steemconnect interface but fake. Keychain is a good extension which is save your time to log in to your account. Both the way you can securely access to your account and you can reduce the complexity of providing you keys every time you log in.
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSIONI am trying to share the details of Steem Blockchain in simple language in a consistent way as a collection so that anyone can easily know the details about this blockchain in one place. Those who newly want to work in the Steem blockchain can easily access to this world of Steem blockchain by studying the basics of steem series from here.
