Hi friends,

I am proud to be a part of this unique enagement contest run by our #hindwhalecommunity. https://steemit.com/hive-179660/@hindwhale/steemit-enagagement-challenge-season-6-week-1-what-outdoor-games-did-you-play-as-a-child-that-aren-t-famous-worldwide
This contest is really very interesting because it is a very pleasant experience for me to share our childhood games here. Being a nineties kid myself I have a lot of gaming experience, and I have a lot of games like this, some of which I would like to share here.

What outdoor games did you play as a child that aren't famous worldwide?

Gilli Danda(Stick and Bale)

A traditional form of cricket known as Gilli Danda is thought to have originated in India more than 2,500 years ago. Two sticks are used in the game: a huge one called a danda and a smaller one called a gilli. The object of the game is to use Danda to hit the smaller stick (gilli) so that it travels the farthest. The player strikes the gilli while it is in the air, trying to hit it as far as they can. After hitting the gilli, the player must sprint and contact a predetermined position outside the circle before an opponent can retrieve the gilli.

Goalie(Marbles)

Children play with marble-like objects called Goalie in the street during the holidays. The goalie of one rival must be struck by the goalie of another. The winner gets to remove the goalies and the loser off the field if the target is hit properly. there were many variety of games using the Marbles. In those days, it was the most played game among kids.

Bambaram (Spinning Top )

Bambaram means spinning top, hence the game should begin with a whip like Thick Thread, rolled on Bambarakatta (the wooden top) and initiated to spin. This game can be played by two or more persons. After placing a circle at the bottom, the kids rotate the top while simultaneously leaving the bottom.

Then, with the revolving Top in your hand, strike the Top within the circle to remove it. Boys carefully select Tops because the spinning top can break at times. It is like a treasure to certain people. Beyond Tamil Nadu, the game will be played in many other states.

Nondi( KITH KITH)

Girls on the streets play this game. Draw eight interlocking boxes in a row on the ground. Competitors must throw a stone into the first box and saunter past the lines and box without touching them.

A common playground activity in which participants hurl a tiny object into numbered spots within a pattern of rectangles drawn on the ground before hopping or jumping through the slots to retrieve the object. All people enjoy playing this well-liked game, which is also performed in other nations.

TYRE VANDI(ROLLING TYRES)

In our Childhood days, children playing with rubber tyres while holding a stick, which is a frequent sight. The game's rules are pretty straightforward. Whoever rolls the tyre for the longest wins the game. The person rolling the tyre must use the stick to prevent it from falling.

These types of rings are abandoned from old tyres that are being mended and kids take them and also play with old bicycle tyres because special tyres for this purpose are not sold in stores.

Kannamoochi(Hide &Seek)

Some kids still play this particular game today. In order for one of the kids to get some rest, the other kids had to hide inside the house. The aim then is to find the hidden one while wearing a blindfold.

The individual who is regarded as the leader selects one player from the group when playing hide and seek. He's reportedly a scholar. The other kids flee and hide as the leader hides his eyes. The leader began singing

"Kanna moochi rere... kare mutte re re... devour an egg."

by the time they had fled and hidden. The leader will open the person's eyes after the song is finished. The one he caught is out as the person searches for the concealed children. The individual who is out will then close their eyes. The match will go on once again. They will win the game if every child touches the leader.

Conclusion

There are a lot more games that the kids played at that time that I haven't put here. But it is encouraging to note that games like Kabaddi, Co-Co, and sack racing, which were once popular in small areas, are still played today and on a national level. Let's ensure the survival of our traditional games by passing them down to the next generation. The enjoyment of playing and enjoying yourself cannot be obtained by reading a book or learning on a smartphone.

Feedback / Note
  • You have shared some amazing games of my childhood. I was good at gilli danda game. In our country this game is considered as a boy's game. Even then I used to play this game with boys. I could hit about 3-4 times at a time and take it far. Thanks for participating. Good luck.
