Gridcoin Community Hangout #034
Gridcoin Community Hangout #034
The Gridcoin community hangouts are scheduled transparent community meetings where anyone can bring a Gridcoin/BOINC related topic to the table to be discussed.
We follow a similar model to BeyondBitcoin where the order of topics to be discussed goes from most upvoted ($ wise, not count) to least voted upon.
Thanks to @officialfuzzy for providing the server space and the encouragement within the community, and to @peppernrino for editing the hangouts.
What is Gridcoin?
Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.
Where can I listen to past hangouts?
The minutes can be found here.

033 RSVP & Topic suggestion thread
Why are we holding these hangouts?
- A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via forums and IRC.
- To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC and related services & their development progress.
- To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities.
How long will the hangout last?
If there are not many topics suggested then hangouts won't last longer than an hour, on the other hand if there are many topics suggested then the hangout may last 2-3 hours!
When the Gridcoin Community Hangouts start really picking up traction we can become more strict with allocated speaking time if need be (so you're not waiting hours to talk).
Want to suggest a topic to discuss?
Reply with your suggestions in this Steem post & order of discussion will be from highest to lowest voted suggestions.
Can we discuss anything?
It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/Cryptocurrency.
That said, this 'on topic' guideline fizzles away once official recording has ended & the hangout becomes a more relaxed environment.

PROPOSAL
We are working toward removing the team requirement for GRC. This is a huge step. The stats are out there: we reach a fraction of active Boincers and an even smaller fraction of the general BOINC community; With this update, a community which helps inform the intent of GRC will be given access to GRC.
How do we want to reach out to this community?
Let's discuss ideas!
Primarily
Secondarily
Word-of-mouth marketing! We should promote Gridcoin in all BOINC forum's "team recruitment" forums, as well as begin posting new threads in forums which have their own team & explicitly push the team req change so that we don't get censored.
Reaching out to BOINC project admins for partnership, donation addresses & gridcoin logos (Since it's no longer a team specific crypto rather a team neutral crypto).
challenge situation:
PrimeGrid (8.2k users) and
Rosetta (21.6k users)
https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@erkan/team-gridcoin-is-leading-in-2-boinc-challenges-right-now-primegrid-and-rosetta
The dates for the next 4 team challenges (Formula BOINC, WCG, GPUGrid) are known:
Updates from Gridcoinstats
Here are a few updates from the statistical page for Gridcoin.
Due to the increase of users the faucet has been very popular and runs out quite fast. As of now the Sponsored faucet pays a fixed rate (get it while you can!), something that might change in the future if the value goes up again.
Going Team Neutral
Since Gridcoin is currently going trough talks of going team neutral I have put some work in to making the page this as well. The page will get some change during the next week or two.
It will have a more team neutral stance which means that anyone with a CPID on Boinc can find themselves on the page. You will also be able to see what team someone belongs to, and see how much they will earn if they join Gridcoin. At the moment this means changing teams, but later it will hopefully not be necessary.
There will also be a new section listing all Teams, much like the current Projects or CPID page, where you can see the teams position.
This is just a few of the changes to come, much more is planned for this update.
Next version
The next version of the page is under development and will include a major visual change to the current one. The work has just started and it will include a whole rewrite from scratch including how all data is collected.
Contact
As always, best way to reach me is in the Team Gridcoin Slack channel where I'm known as startail.
By the time we have this hangout, team Gridcoin should be #2 on the all-time BOINC (non-asic) leaderboard! We're now on pace to take the #1 spot by the beginning of October! Just a few weeks ago, were hoping to be #1 by the end of 2017, but we've seen a ton of growth in a short time.
Kikipope's mag is still rising, now >1500. We had some good discussion about this during the last hangout. Have we heard back from the remaining project admins? It looks like it's down to Leiden Classical, LHC, and Cosmology (TN-Grid and WCG RAC seems to be from the past, and therefore slowly dropping to zero).
Kikipope is such a fool, he's using his personal email for his botnet. You can look up his linkedin profile via this email.. we've heard that LHC admins have forwarded kikipope's details to their cybersecurity team..
In the mean time, we should totally contact the project admins to ban this user.
We should create boinc op scripts for detecting suspected botnet operators.
We really need to discuss and brainstorm some more on the upcoming millionth block.
There have been some great ideas formulated and I think these need to be aired for all to hear.
This is a major opportunity as a 'milestone' and should not be wasted as it is a public relations must.
We also need to discuss the issue of 'whitehat' exploits and whether any profit made by previous or future 'whitehat' exploits should be kept or paid back to the foundation as a rule.
I believe that 'whitehat' bounties should be created and payments made transparently.

@guk posted this on another thread (link) regarding potential changes to the whitelist:
I would be looking at removing:
SZtaki - Work units are not fairly distributed
Leiden - Project starting to wind down, new signups were stopped and there seems to be problems with granted credit.
And Adding:
Sourcefinder - Lots more work coming, If Pogs is whitelisted so should Sourcefinder
Enigma - Poll was broken, needs to be re-run
Xansons - Has now released Source code, not https though.
Is the voting system now functioning again?
What are the next steps we need to take?
Who is able to create polls?
note: proceeds from this comment will be transferred to @guk
people who have 100k GRC can create a poll
if people don't have so much they can post a request: here

Thanks for the links, I was too lazy to look for them :-)
Dev news:
For some reason I cannot edit the original post so I continue here:
We have two big upcoming changes; the Neural Network port by @bullshark and the new V8 stake engine by Tomas. Both require targeted testing and since we are already well underway with testing the NN port we will continue until we see that it can stake a block, and then move on to V8.
Interesting coin out here- distributed, that's amazing. In many ways Gridcoin looks promising. Need to stay update.
Thanks for useful topic here.
Hello, I am writing on behalf of Steemit Inc. It has come to our attention that you initiated the Stolen Account Recovery process. No email was specified during the recovery process and you have only 3 days left to complete the process. If you need to contact us you can reach me @andrarchy on steemit.chat.
Hey,
I managed to recover my account through sheer luck, is it possible to add additional recovery mechanisms? The only recovery mode available to me was my deleted reddit account, so there's no recovery possible via reddit.
Thanks
Oh no cm, not you too!!
Luckily you got yours back not like me and my original account.
Amazing support :D
