Gridcoin Community Hangout #033

A massive shout out to the BeyondBitcoin community & @officialfuzzy for providing the Gridcoin community a room in their mumble server for free.

Another massive thanks to @peppernrino for editing the hangout recordings! Follow him on Steem! :D

What is Gridcoin?

Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.

032 RSVP & Topic suggestion thread

Why are we holding these hangouts?

  • A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via forums and IRC.
  • To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC and related services & their development progress.
  • To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities.

How long will the hangout last?

If there are not many topics suggested then hangouts won't last longer than an hour, on the other hand if there are many topics suggested then the hangout may last 2-3 hours!

When the Gridcoin Community Hangouts start really picking up traction we can become more strict with allocated speaking time if need be (so you're not waiting hours to talk).

Want to suggest a topic to discuss?

Reply with your suggestions in this Steem post & order of discussion will be from highest to lowest voted suggestions.

Can we discuss anything?

It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/Cryptocurrency.

That said, this 'on topic' guideline fizzles away once official recording has ended & the hangout becomes a more relaxed environment.

Proposed time for Gridcoin Hangout #033:

@sc-steemit running for Steemit Witness to support Gridcoin

I've anounced my intent to run for Steemit Witness, official post.
My intent for this is to gain more Steem Power for voting up Gridcoin related posts and users.

Steemit has given the Gridcoin community a place to grow on and I wish to give some back to the platform in this way, and I hope to gain your support and trust in this mission.

Vote for me as a Steemit Witness

Proud Steemian supporter for the #Gridcoin community

I'm supporting the humanitarian cryptocurrency coin Gridcoin

I gave you a shout-out on beyondbitcoin :)

State of the Network

Some topics I think would be interesting are

  • Lack of superblock for over 50hrs+
  • Superblock consensus only including 2 out of 25 projects this week.
  • Increased number of blocks per day

We're going outside the number of 960 blocks per day the last 1-2 weeks. Some days have been as many as 1400.

Discussing upgrading the Gridcoin website

The website is fully open source: https://github.com/grctest/Gridcoin-Site

@Peppernrino, Barton26 and myself have been working on updating the Gridcoin website.

The current live gridcoin.us website is very old by comparison to the latest dev version.

I'd appreciate suggestions, but prior to making them please follow the github readme instructions to getting the dev version running.

Thanks

Proposal to lower the sponsored faucet payouts

The community sponsored Faucet at Gridcoinstats has been very popular, with a reward of 1-3 GRC/day with a single bonus of 20 GRC the faucet is well visited and pays out about 200 GRC per day.

Higher value

With the higher value of GRC today than when the page was started we are rewarding users with quite some money every day.

Not changing without consent

Since these coins are from the community I'm not changing this without a consent. The faucet has been refilled a few times during the way, but with higher demand it depletes faster.

I wish to hear what the community sais and think it's a topic we can bring up on the hangout

Over just the last two weeks, we've seen a lot of growth in the Gridcoin Team and our speed up the leaderboard has accelerated. At our current pace, we'll be #1 in November!

Rob opened up for changing the reward structure in his github comment. This is a huge and has the potential for a great boost in staking participation rewards for small stakers. It would also remove the offline interest reward.

I don't agree with the complete removal of interest, offline interest removal is great though.

I don't think we should be pushing the coin supply inflation above the current 6.5%, plus the POR shouldn't decay. At least, any such proposal to change inflation should be entirely separate from changes to staking/reward/NN mechanisms.

I agree, I think we should move to fixed block rewards and keep PoR as it is, at least for now. This is the simplest fix which yields the greatest benefit.

these talks seems interesting, , when I fist saw the post I thought it was like a crypto, I'll check the past talks .. good luck in your talk on the 17th

You've got a lot of content to catch up on, haha! Easily 80hrs of content ;D

Kikipope's magnitue is over 1200 and rising. How have we dealt with this in the past?

By reaching out to individual project admins, they have then detached the computers and locked him out. It's worth doing this for the new projects.

The guy is an idiot, he uses his personal email for the BOINC project & you can easily find him on Linkedin.. pretty crazy considering the illegality of botnets..

We should do another raid then. With 1200 mag there are a lot of coins being taken from legit users.

CM here, sorry for the mistake but the correct date for the 33rd hangout is next Saturday (24th June), sorry!
