events/ideas for Gridcoin's block #1000000 ?
Our 1 million block is upcoming (in about 58 days)...
We can use this opportunity to make marketing, raise awareness for BOINC/Gridcoin,...
Proposed ideas include (see here):
- prizes, community-funded torrential rain
- meme challenge
- videos
- Gridcoin mascot
- "best fans of science week"
- social media showing off research rigs/hardware
- social media for best projects
- attention to BOINC
- social media selfies with the Gridcoin client

Promoting the actual advancements made through Gridcoin research. Like primecoin announced the prime numbers they found due to their unique POW.
Good idea! This shows the importance of Gridcoin.
Erkan we need to make this a fiesta with a great build up to the moment it happens.
I think this is an opportunity not to be missed even from the public relations side of things.
We need at least a weeks build up to the millionth block to gain any traction at all.
Why not get users to send in a 20 second "Congratulations to Gridcoin on the Millionth Block".
They can wear masks, crazy disguises, do crazy things or simply says congratulations.
Maybe we can get some famous personalities to participate.
A compilation of these 20 second videos could then be made and disseminated across the various social media and other platforms on the web. Could be a lot of fun.
The logistical difficulties of doing something like this shouldn't put us off as the overall benefit for all of us will be far reaching.
Right on; we could also reach out to the BOINC team at UC and perhaps different BOINC project team leads (like SETI) and see if there are willing to make 20 second videos too.

How about giving a little "bounty money" for the staker of the millionth block? Not a big lump sum but like 1k or 500grc? Also some kind of small bounties could be made for example "find a mega prime that ranks in top 200 of The Largest Known Primes Database (PrimeGrid's PPS Mega Prime Search)" This is just an example but something like that? I listened the BeyondBitcoin Gridcoin special and they were talking about these kinds of bounties and I thought this could be a good thing when done right.
How about a big coin giveaway or lottery ? 😁
