Game Review: Total War Warhammer 2 Review - Treats in the footsteps of his predecessor

The Total War franchise already has many settings on its name, but the most controversial approach was introduced last year. Lovers of the strategy series got acquainted with the imaginative Warhammer, and that caught incredibly well. Does the second part of this merger affect the same art? The newest PC-exclusive real-time strategy game with Creative Assembly tabletop elements is the second installation within the Warhammer trieluik. Again, players with fiction races will battle to determine the future of their kind and save the world in chaos (or not). Only in contrast to its predecessor is there a lot of twist in the motivations of the factions, or could it be better called "a big twister"?

A clear goal

Where the first Total War Warhammer explained a lot of stories in the base, it missed an umbrella story. Each faction must have its own lore , but beyond the predominance of the world map, the objective did not really end. For repetition, Creative Assembly has come up with a surprising approach.

A tornado, called the Great Vortex, keeps the balance between the New World peoples through supernatural powers. At least, that should be done until this magic phenomenon was disturbed and energy began to leak. For some of the neighboring races this is the starting point to restore the Great Vortex and to save the world of destruction. Instead, the evil creatures want to manipulate the released power to make use of it.

The Great Vortex is more than a gimmick to give some meat to the story. During the grand campaign, this translates into a race against the clock, with each of the four fresh facts being used to use or abuse the magic phenomenon. In total, five different rituals must be carried out to tie the forces. The first to meet this challenge can be the ruler of the New World.

Exciting to the final ritual

The campaign mode rituals provide gameplay for a few skills. To start such a ceremony you must collect a special currency. This means of payment can only be achieved by performing certain quests and possessing holy settlements. It has been a smart move to let the player choose when the ceremony is used because the hell breaks loose.

After activating a ritual, the player is defeated by all peoples who are ready to make your holy locations equal to the ground. They can suddenly appear in the middle of the personal territory without any announcement. Fast acting is a requirement, because before you know, you lose the ritual and come to another party. With the challenge, it's just fine, like in the first part.

The beautiful thing about Total War games is not that all about you and not only your faction under the guards. If other races start a ceremony, repercussions will follow. Even if you are not in the vicinity, try to prevent the counterparty by simply ordering a specialist rental clerk. Those new factions know what is fighting.

Lots of beautiful collection

In Total War Warhammer 2 you can start with the High Elves , Dark Elves , Lizardmen and Skaven for the first time . The new-breeds breed all have their own strengths, weaknesses, personal skills and unique mechanics . The Skaven, for example, works with a system in which the amount of food determines how strong the troops are, while the lizard creatures force from linking different settlements. Basically, the gameplay of each race is a world of difference.

In addition to playing styles, each group also has its own lore , language, cutscenes , leaders, architectural style, funnels , unique items, units and more of what you're used to in Total War. You will enjoy having all these various elements, which do not make any playthrough feel the same. Unfortunately, not every faction is equally strong from the corner.

The Lizardmen are fantastic and challenging with a wide variety of reptile-like units. The Skaven rats go back a little, but are still quite impressive. Arrived at the High and Dark Elves, the troops and characteristics are a little opposed to the extension of previously playable factions. Unlike the vast majority of all Warhammer races, these two last groups lack the necessary persuasiveness.

A piece of greener

The clear fourth division of the factions can also be found in the giant world map that you receive. The new map has four beautifully beautiful continents separated by a huge surface of water. Each of these areas has one or more dominant climates that usually affect the playing style. What you can expect is enough variety through, for example, vast deserts, jungles, marshes and much more.

Gameplay on the ocean is not unknown to the franchise, but to this extent it has never been introduced. There are many archipelagos, treasures and other sights in the water, which makes the blue thing more than just a crossing option. Unfortunately, battles are only solved with auto- solving for the time being, but adding storms and twists that damage your troops make a lot of good.

In general, World War Warmer 2 world map knows more to surprise than the first part. A flatter color palette will take you on a tropical trip, with every continent having a different taste. Should you long for the setting of the first Warhammer RTS and also have the original game? Then these two world cards will simply be matched to one unmatched big campaign card.

Exercises power again

Although the game is familiar with new features, Total War Warhammer 2 does not find the wheel again. The surprise between the first Total War Warhammer and the rest of the franchise is significantly greater than between the beginning of this fantasy branch and its progeny. It is comparable to the step between Total War Rome 1 to Rome 2, but with slightly more content.

The mechanics and multiplayer capabilities are even the same in the finer lines. Turn-based steps on world map, impressive real-time fighting, camera applications, diplomatic capabilities and many more aspects. Even all the facts from the previous part and its effects return. This makes the game a celebration celebration for the player familiar with the first part.

Nevertheless, you absolutely do not have to play the first part to get the best out of Total War Warhammer 2. In fact, the visually beautiful game takes care of newcomers and gives you continuous tips. A few minor adjustments as comprehensive building systems, taking over ruins, newly free-for-all multiplayer and complex animations ensure that even this brand new part is better in tone than its predecessor. Unfortunately, these improvements have not been implemented on any level.

Shave within production?

It seems that Total War Warhammer 2 has fallen sharply in the total number of quest battles . Compared to the first part, you get a lot less meaningful battles. At the moment, each leader only has one or two of these standalone battles that can also be started from the main menu. In addition to a reduction in this area, there are still a number of problems to be found.

The fact that the game is far away from the previous game is not a disturbing element, but also the same pitfalls return. After cuts or real-time battles, the camera still wants to bother. In addition, units still do not respond well enough to get total control over the fight. Additionally, as the campaign progresses, inconsistency occurs in the frame rate and you recognize the negative patterns well.

Digital war again is fantastic

Total War Warhammer 2 is big with a capital letter 'G'. Again, negotiate, rob and destroy your way to victory where neither rat nor eleven spared. Although much has remained the same, such as the high quality of attractive graphics and profound battles, the game has enough content to be more than just a giant DLC. New peoples with unique playing styles, the Great Vortex as an interest and the treacherous New World are the pillars of this solid RTS construction.

Dozens and probably hundreds of hours will pass you over while teaching other peoples a lesson. Unfortunately, this will not be completely flawless, because the game itself is rebellious. Like its predecessor, framerate issues turn back as a campaign progresses and camera and unit responses do not always work properly. Although the game can not be described as perfect, you will be able to experience the Skaven's extinction!

Total War Warhammer 2 was released on September 28th for the PC.
