Smeared (Freewite #27: Syrup)
Freewriting
Things got a little bit hectic and busy, so I ended up skipping two days of freewrites. Don't you worry, I'm back with another freewrite! Today's prompt is syrup.
Smeared
Her mother had just left. It was going to take her 34 minutes to come back, if she takes as long as usual. Mariah had to be quick on her feet and execute her plan immediately. She waited two minutes to make sure her mother does not return - she tends to forget her keys or her cellphone quite often. Then, she called her boyfriend, Glen, who was waiting in his car, a couple roads down.
She started looking in her mother favourite hiding spots. Glen soon came in as well and helped her search. They were not having luck. Mariah was quite short, so she took a chair and stood on the counter to reach the top cabinets. There was something hidden in the corner. Her hands reached to grab the mysterious bag, and suddenly, a trap snapped on her hand. She screamed! The pain made her pull her hands quickly, and with it, she dropped a couple of jars. Maple syrup and jam, all smeared on the floor. This was a mess!
Glen could not care about the pain that she was, and he knew he would get out of troule much easier than Mariah would. So, he continued to search, upstairs. In the meantime, Mariah got stuck in the mess.

Hehe 34 minutes is a very specific time. Curious, why did you chose that number? Interesting free write.
I wanted something short for the hurried effect, yet not too short. Anything under 30 would seem too short. 31 seems too close to 30. 32 doesn't sound nice. 33 is a cheesy number. 34 would do just fine. It also gives the impression that the plan is more meticulous, well-thought and precise ;)

Haha, that's really great! After the first two sentences I thought Mariah was a little girl who wanted to make pancakes on her own for the frist time! Then I thought the syrup would play a different part than it actually did, lol! That's the great thing about freewrite, it just takes you somewhere in those five minutes, and at least I am often surprised where I end up.

I suppose so - I had an idea of going something more brutal and that her mother had enchanted and protected her treasure, but it's a 5 minute freewrite so I let that idea go.
