Sledding - Freewrite Day 113

Skiing is for the big kids. Like my brother. He has skis. But we, the little ones, my little brother and me, we have sleds.
And the snow is falling!! Time to go. School is out, lunch is over, the sun is shining.
We put on our coats, mittens, scarves and hats and down the stairs we go. Loud. Of course, the neighbors will complain. But we have our winter boots on and we are fast.
Mom calls from above. : "Be quiet."
But we are already down and under the stairs where the sleds are waiting for us. We each have one now since my sister is not going. We carry them to the street and past where the walkway is cleared. Down they go and we can take the string and pull them. So much fun. We can't wait to get to the hill and start our first run down. We are passing by the little lake, have to cross the street by the cinema. Looking for cars, we go as fast as we can while carrying the sleds.
Boy, they are heavy. Through the ally, towards the theater and the city castle. Here is our first hill to climb.
It's a bit slippery. Icy. But some gravel is on the path. We try to keep the sled off the gravel but we are almost there. We already can hear the other kids screaming and laughing.
Further up we go and finally, there is the first sledding area. The one for the little kids. So many kids are already here.
I go first, my brother behind me. We scream a little bit too. So much fun!! The only thing now is to stop in time before we get to the trees.

It was nice that you coasted down memory lane! I never got the chance to experience snow with my eyes, or hands, or whatever. It is definitely nice for others to share their warm (yet chilly) experiences that give me the chance to actually experience it through their writing.

Yes, all our realities are so different! For some, the sun never seems to shine enough, for others - it is there all the time!

for others, there are 3 suns to their planet... for others... what is a sun?

The ones with the three suns really get hot, don't they 🤪

depends... I'd like to think my hotness is equivalent to five suns, so it really depends.

hahaha - you personally? Or where you live? 😀

Me, personally. My ego tends to be also bigger than any known sun. That's the only way to cover up all the flaws haha

good to know to have such a hot person among us!!!

I love the way this read so naturally, like pure memory pouring out onto the page, or on this case the screen ;-) I especially like the opening:

Skiing is for the big kids. Like my brother. He has skis. But we, the little ones, my little brother and me, we have sleds.

This opening paragraph shows such a wonderful economy of words as well as a poetic feel to it. Lovely freewrite @mariannewest

Thank you so much! Any compliment coming from you has double weight :)

Ahh this one took me on a nostalgia trip. Having snowdays from school and going sledding was one of the most exciting things.

In Germany, school was out at 12 - latest by 1. We had some homework - but not much when we were little. Go home for lunch and then go sledding until it gets dark - which is also pretty early in the winter...I used to love it!!

That's an old sled. This made me remember how we used a bar of soap to make the sled go faster. "The only thing now is to stop in time before we get to the trees." HaHa! My post was about the same thing but I was in a saucer and the tree hit me! : )

We have a big park in my hometown which goes all the way from town up to the Veste - the castle where the nobility spent the winter or retreated to in a war. Of course, in the olden days, commoners couldn't go there. But there were some nice slopes in there gentle enough for little kids. But if you were fast enough and got over one of the walkways, there was a steeper slope with trees at the end lol

You lived near a castle? That sounds so interesting, even if you couldn't go there. I can just picture the slopes. I sure hope you didn't go fast enough to reach the steeper slope. You look so cute on that sled!
I am starting with a migraine so I don't know if I will be able to do today's freewrite : (

Hope that migraine goes away!!!

this is my home town :) at around 2:20 you can see some of the "slopes" we sled down - they are grass :)

What a beautiful place! You must miss it terribly. I really enjoyed the video and I saw the slopes. They look so much nicer when they are green. Can you tell I don't like winter?
Migraine finally went away this morning thank goodness. 2 1/2 days is long enough.

thank you for posting it. But you might also want to drop it under the prompt. (blue graphic). More people will see it.
