We-Writes Are Fun for Two! Plus Another Chance to Win!

Day 4

brought to you by @brisby

So we all know what a freewrite is, if not head here, and have had our kicks going wild with a prompt. Then we've had the pleasure of reading someone else's story and seeing a bit into their creative, passionate, hilarious and sometimes devious minds. 😎 We'll leave comments for the writer, learning more about them and creating those connections that make our freewriting group one of the best there is on Steemit!

      That's a lot of WE !

We-Writes come from the excitement of sharing the joy in creating a story! They add another level of challenge and fun to the freewriting experience! Back on the Day 100 Celebration @mariannewest posted the dare for everyone to pick a partner and collaborate. So many of our community rose to the occasion and created amazing stories together! Everyone had a blast and were able to enjoy learning more about each other! Why let the fun stop there? We-Writes can be done anytime! There's no need to wait for a contest, although who knows what the future will bring? 😉

How Do We Play?

There are three ways to do this. They require correspondence through comments, Discord, Steemit Chat, email, or a shared document. Google doc is a free option. @snook wrote a terrific post explaining how to share a document if you have never made one. Here is her post. To work out any kinks, @snook and I beta tested the We-Write process and our story can be read here

Helpful tip: Plan how post payouts will be shared with your partner beforehand to avoid any misunderstandings.😁

Option 1

  1. Pick a partner and open up a shared Google doc.
  2. Decide who will begin writing.
  3. Prepare a timer for each writer. Alternate writing for 1 minute each.
  4. Use the word “Go” to let the other know that it was their turn.
  5. Use the prompt provided.
  6. Put the word/phrase at the top of the page.
  7. The first freewriter sets a timer for 1 minute and begins writing.
  8. When the minute is up, type the word “GO” to let the next writer know to begin.
  9. Carry on, alternating turns, until 10 minutes have passed (each has written for 5 minutes).
  10. Combine the sentences (cleaning up the formatting and removing the “Go’s” if you wish).
  11. Place the “cleaned up” version of the story below the exercise.
  12. Submit the link and then enjoy reading that day’s freewrites!

Option 2

  1. Pick a partner and open up a shared Google doc.
  2. Decide who will begin writing.
  3. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
  4. First freewriter writes one sentence.
  5. Then, the other freewriter writes one sentence.
  6. Switch back and forth until the 10 minutes are over.

Option 3

- This option is especially good if you can't find a time which suits both writers

  1. Each freewriter writes a 5 minute freewite.
  2. Exchange the freewites (This can be done in comments, through Discord, Steemit Chat, or email)
  3. Write 5 more minutes on the partners freewrite and finish the story.
  4. You can both publish the freewrites and if you want, add a bit on how that kind of writing felt to you. Was it fun? Difficult? Want to do it again?

We've come so far as a group since starting on our freewriting journey. Let's all enjoy playing and writing fantastic stories together! Our Freewrite House is always ready to party! Now, grab a partner, Do-Si-Do, and let's get rolling with those We-Writes!

I first participated in a we-write with the wonderful @jrhughes in the 100th freewrite celebration post. A post of inestimable literary magnitude was created that day 😉
jokes, it was an amazingly sardonic piece of fiction inspired by our mutually dark sense of humour, check it out here. This first foray into free-write we-write got me hooked and I just want to put it out there that if anyone wants to colaborate on a freewrite I am well up for it! Just let me know in the comments here or find me on the 'isle of write' discord group. My name on there is the same as it is on here. I also want to say thanks to all the freewritehouse folks for these chances at a steemit basic income. Love the new initiative

You are in! I am sure you will make lots of friends when you hang around the freewriters and the Freewrite House. That is what we are all about 😄

The red-haired woman fainted in front of all passengers. I had seen her when she had entered the plane, looking around anxiously. Most people would have assumed she was a nervous flyer, but I knew better. When she spotted me, she lifted her eyebrow for a short moment. We had recognized each other. Then she fainted. The surrounding passengers didn’t really know what to do, they hesitated, someone called out for a crew member. I jumped off my seat, made my way through the crowd – “Please let me through, I’m a Freewriter!” – and approached her quickly. When I kneeled down she opened her eyes and we both knew that our common journey to We-Write had just begun.

I apologize to @felt.buzz for kind of stealing his idea to write commentsupershortstories, but I've forever wanted to put the sentence "Let me through, I'm a writer" in a story and when I've read about We-Write (which I did for the first time here) I immediately pictured myself in the situation above. :)

You are in! That is a fantastic comment story!!

"Let me through, I'm a writer"
I think we all should use that more often!!!

I have not yet participated in a we-write, mostly because it requires computer knowledge I lack, like what's Discord, Steemit Chat, or a shared Google Doc? But somebody did write a second part to one of my freewrites, and that was a lot of fun. Wish I could remember who it was. Maybe @snook? And how do I know if this is 50 words yet, short of counting them on the computer screen. (Ack!)

You are in!! And did you check yesterday's winner announcements? lol
And now, let's answer some questions:
word counting tool: http://www.wordcounttool.com/

If you click on the Isle of Write graphic, it will take you to discord and you will be part an online platform where you can join different groups and also send private messages.

Google docs come with a gmail address which is free. They can be set that more than one person can access and edit a document. But there are many other ways to do that.

Thank you for all that useful information!

you are welcome :)

Lol wow!?!? I have never thought of this idea to freewrite in real time between 2 writers . I can imagine 2 totally different topics and writing style clash together into one, forming something completely. This method is awesome because you can do this with a fellow Steemian because it’s online! I like Option A and Option B, I’m gonna try it out! Thank you very much for sharing @freewritehouse!!

Thank you @snook for thought of this idea and shared with us. You must have an incredible creativity level in you to have thought of this idea! How did you find this out?

10 tifaong

You are in the drawing. And @snook is a very creative person - you got that one right!! 👍 But guess what. so many of the freewriters are extremely creative and I am sure that you fit right in.

Oh wow, thank you very much for your kind words @freewritehouse!! I'm still working to be the best of my version!

The wewrite is a lot of fun. I wish I could join but I prefer to have the original freewrite where I have to do it on my own. But i would love to read the outputs that will be on my feed. See you and God bless us All! 😂😂😂

You are in!! Some day you might try it out and see how much fun it is!! Watch this space for a contest in the future :) For now, check out day 5 for another chance to win!

Thanks. Heheh im very happy about it. 😆😆😆

I have never participated in a we-write for several reasons. The main reason being social anxiety; there is something daunting about collaborations. The first collaboration I have done (and the only one) was in December or so, and it was a poetry collaboration. I do understand that time-wise, a freewrite would be shorter, however, there is still a kind of co-dependency which I am not as comfortable with. That sort of thing that would inhibit me from freewriting and be too-critical before writing, which would defeat the purpose!

You are in the drawing. I think for you, option 3 would be perfect. You write your own freewrite for 5 minutes and that becomes you partners prompt - and theirs becomes yours - just a much longer prompt 😉 As with everything we do here at the Freewrite House - the critical mind is politely uninvited from the table and we are allowed to write sh.t. All is good. The truth is, once the critic leaves, things usually turn out to be pretty fun.

This is what I haven't tried yet. I am yet to understand the mechanics but I will read whenever I am going to join. I am yet to look for someone to be my pair.

I am happy though that freewrite is more challenging. I am unable to take part on some as I only do single freewrite but hopefully, I am able to take the challenges soon. More power to #freewrite community and @freewritehouse.

You are in the drawing!! Thank you so much for your donation!! That is the very first one we received from the freewriter community!! You are getting a big shout out in tomorrow's post!

I have to admit that we-writes were allota fun. @brisby and I did two option 3's and we each created a beginning, then swapped, and created endings for each story. I was definitely out of my comfort zone for those stories, but sometimes you just have to try something new. I wouldn't be on Steemit, if I didn't try something new. 😉

You are in!! You are so right!! Every one of us on Steemit is willing to try something new. And you did so well on those We-Writes!!

This was brilliant. Because of time difference, I wasn't sure if I was able to take part. I put a message out that I had written a part 1 of a story. @snook caught the message and offered to finish the story. I sent her the story through discord.

Because it was late, I was happy for the story to be written and posted. @snook was one of my biggest encouragers when I started the freewrite, so I has happy that she wanted to finish the story.

What a story it was. It was such a buzz to read it the next morning. The end was brilliant. It was my first time to put the freewrite community in danger, but the story had a great twist and everyone was saved.

You are in!! Aren't you glad that you didn't kill the freewriters? Now, we have a beautiful house for all of us and we are all safe here! 😜
