Dining Out - Hotel Victor

Hotel Victor

Yesterday I wrote about our day trip down to Victor Harbour, and briefly mentioned that we ate at the Hotel Victor. It's a nice old hotel that overlooks the esplanade and parkland, right across the road from the beach and only a short walk from the start of the causeway to Granite Island.

Taken from the beachfront car park across the road, the hotel is all the building with the white posts

The 6 of us arrived a bit later than we'd anticipated, and discovered that the dining room now only does their smorgasborg, which is great, but expensive, and with at least 2 of us that wouldn't eat enough to get value from it, we decided to eat in the bistro/front bar instead.

It was quite packed, but we did find a table eventually, and got our orders placed. The food took a while to come out, which is quite likely due to them being very busy, but when it arrived it was all pretty wonderful.

The chips were good, though not as good as those we had at The Lighthouse Wharf. It seems that we've been spoiled from those ones and none since have been better.

This bowl is what a serve of chips should be, at least in size

Everyone that ordered the fish enjoyed their meal, with the option of 1 piece or 2 pieces of fish being on the menu really helping with the serving size. There was also an order of the roast of the day, which came piled with roast vegetables and at least 2 thick slices of beef. My nephew had their garlic bread and a bowl of chips, which provided us all with more chips than we could eat after the rest of our meals.

Fish, Chips, and Salad. A pretty standard serving, done really well

My own order was the Soft Shell Crab Burger, which came with a serve of fries, though it was a rather small side of chips in my thinking and I was glad for the extras from the bowl. It arrived on a wooden serving board, which was odd with everything else our table ordered being served on plates, but all the other burgers and pizzas and a few other things came out for other tables on various sized serving boards, so it was just that my order wasn't consistent with the rest of my table. The burger was good, but not great, with the 2 sauces that they list in the menu not being strong enough to really make an impression, even through the flavour of the crab, which really isn't that strong. The brioche bun lid also failed at maintaining structural integrity, with one of the mayonnaise style sauces breaking through it regularly. With all that said, the crab was pretty much perfect, and it had good flavours.

u make hungry.... yummy food😂😂

I love Hotel Victor. Haven’t eaten there in a long time. :)

I hadn't eaten there in many years either, which was the main deciding factor between here and the Crown

Check out Whalers on the Bay at Encounter Bay if you're still in Victor. It's a great spot. Lovely view over the bay and great food.

Haven't been there before (or at least I don't remember it). We used to holiday in Encounter Bay regularly, but not in the last decade since the holiday house was sold. It's been less often for me too since I've not been living in the state either.

We were just down there for the day trip, but maybe next time I'll suggest we check it out. It's only a 45 minute drive from mum's place

My parents live on the beachside in Encounter Bay so I go there quite often. Definitely worth checking out. Maybe I should do a post for you about my next visit to Whaler's. :P

Very nice. Our regular place (which my Aunty and Uncle owned) was a little way back up on the hills that overlook the bay. Easy walk down to Yilky's though.

A post about it after your next visit would be a good idea

The building looks so lonely from this angle, maybe it's just all those roads XD The food looks pretty decent, specially the fish and chips but I'm a bit biased there. Burger on the chopping board was a bit of an interesting display/serving choice but as long as it was good I guess? XD

Isn't really the greatest photo of the building, but does get all of the building into the shot, which is difficult from anywhere else since it wraps around the corner like that.
