Dining Out - Burek Balkan Oven
Burek Balkan Oven
Among the multiple eateries in the King St Mall, right in the heart of Rockdale is this little Balkan bakery, that has more room outside the store than inside. When the name of your store includes one of the foods, that's got to be the first thing you try from them. Good thing I love a nice Burek!
Anywhere near meal times, and often just all afternoon, there's people gathered outside. At meal times, you just can't get a table
I was here from the recommendation of one of the many 'cheap eats' listings I'd run across when looking for cheaper food in Sydney. The general recommendation from the list was to get their 'Spinach and Cheese Quarter', so that's what I grabbed.
As soon as you enter the store this is what you can see. Long and narrow is the way here
They have 3 or 4 Burek made and on display waiting to be ordered, but this was on the fringe of lunchtime. Even so by the time I got my order all of the bits in the image above had been purchased and replaced. They don't just sit there which is good to know. With the lack of table space, and things to do at home, I walked home to eat there...
This is a much thicker burek than the previous one I had just around the corner at another local place
Super flaky pastry is the way with a good burek, and this pastry was very flaky. Possibly too flaky? Nah. It stayed together, was able to be cut without completely losing structural integrity, but a lot of flakes falling off. So much filling, a quarter was all I'd need for sure, and it's from a decent sized burek also, so a whole is certainly at least a few servings.
And that filling was quite delicious. It even had stayed warm after the walk home. I could easily see me having this a few more times (or trying some of their other flavours)

oh really nice, enjoy 😊
my next trip I go to the Balkan bakery
It's better than the place just around the corner on the highway (Alexandria Bakery or similar name). I still have to check out Burekman that's actually closer than both those to me, but is newer than both. I just haven't actually been past when it's open...
always feels good to eat the bureks specially for lunch.
Yummy as seen in pics, Thanks sir.
Thanks for stopping by. I have a habit of making people hungry. I'm working on that being my goal in life
I love Balkan food. Can't get it near me. That looks delicious.
