119,111 Total Team Reps (+2,620) - The Steemit Daily 100+ Rep Fitness Challenge - Day # 64 - 2/08/18

in #fitness7 years ago (edited)

Thanks to everyone for their personal responses, advice, and support on my last post here. Checking them tonight after a rough day was a nice bright spot. I don't have weights here now, so on with the push-ups, while happy to be able to do them.

9 Steemians for 2,620 reps today and 119,111 overall, done across 24 people from 8 countries in 63 days.

Calling whales, dolphins, and the fitness community to take notice of us busting our asses daily. Please join us, help spread the word, or reward these dedicated Steemians for their daily workouts and blog posts. More people are joining because they've finally SEEN this blog series, and wish they did sooner. Many who have joined have shared how much this initiative has helped them get back on a healthy fitness regimen. It sure has helped me immensely!

All counts are manually recorded and updated daily.

The Challenge: At least 100 honest reps of exercise every day. No excuses. No bullsh*t. Just actions, positivity, and results. Only post AFTER your reps are done.

  • If you can't contribute yet, try to eat natural foods and stay well hydrated without the sugar for now.

  • It's ok to start with a number you're comfortable with if you can't reach 100. You choose what exercises to do.

  • 30 minutes of dedicated brisk walking, running, or SPINNING (new) can count as 100 reps if you're unable to lift or need to rest.

  • I will award 1 SBD to each person who reaches every 10,000 rep milestone. So far, 5 SBD have been paid out.

Feedback from @mightpossibly:

"I find it deeply satisfying to do these reps, which is a big deal. I've always hated the gym and prefer to exercise at home. But I've lacked the discipline to do it. It sort of feels like I have gym buddies now, without the hassle of going to the gym."

Got in late and didn't get a chance to post this last night.

Daily Challenge Completed - 215 reps
Physical
100 reps - Walking 30 minutes X 2; includes down and up elevation of 300 ft
10 reps - yoga asanas - 10 min X 2
5 reps - pranayama (yogic breathing exercises) 5 min X 2

Mental
100 reps = 1+ hours X 2 Transcendental Meditation and advanced TM-Sidhi (morning and evening)

Its friday morning here, stay strong bro.
Friday morning challenge completed:
100 push ups
150 reps abs work out(planking, side ways plank and a couple of others I don't know their name. It lasted like 10 minutes)
50 squats.
Total: 300 reps

Thanks again for the good wishes. They mean a lot.

I'm still in disbelief you keep pounding out double workouts. I need to step up my game big time.

For the planks, are you holding the various planks and doing various reps while in the positions? I don't know much about planking.

Oh, planking affects abdominal muscles and the back.
Here's planking. You hold this position for a period of time IMG_20180210_102014.jpg
The legs should be close together and the tip of your toes lifting your lower half.
IMG_20180210_102001.jpg
The second one is sideways planking. You gold the position for as long as you can. Again, both legs close to each other and this time your lower half is resting on the side of your foot while you push your upper body up with your elbow as thus

Awesome response. Thanks! I have to maybe ask the crew how we should count planks. I've heard that they're serious work, but seem hard to precisely quantify as reps when they're holding a position. I think 30 mins of planks for 100 reps is too hard to do, right?

Generally, are they cardio, what makes a rep, or is it something to acknowledge with a time formula? Open to suggestions...

its a time based exercise program so we could count five seconds as a rep, what say you?

Not a bad idea at all. I asked the question in the comments on the newest post to see what they think. Please reply with your suggestion there too so people see it coming from you, if you don't mind.

The longest I've been able to hold a single plank is 1 minute and 15 seconds. A friend of mine did 2 minutes straight which for me is insane. 10 minutes of planking in total is impressive and very solid work - I'm impressed!

5 seconds = 1 rep seems decent. I'd also be onboard with 10 seconds = 1 rep.

Cool - thanks a lot. Can you please just flip this feedback onto the latest post where I posted this as a fresh question for everyone to see today?

Daily challenge complete. 722 reps.
Also, got a new toy that @ninjamike might be interested to see.

I used to love that for shrugs. Been so long since I used one though. Brings back good memories of wrist straps and college.

That's what I used this kind of bar for when I trained at Golds. In my warm up I did 5 deadlifts then a short farmer carry with it. This thing is gonna be a lot of fun.

Challenge Completed (100 reps)

Thanks so much @steemmatt for the shoutout! I am not feeling great today (my darn kids may have given be their bug) so I just got in some cardio for 30 minutes on the Spin bike to keep myself moving! Hoping to have more energy for tomorrow..... LEG Day!!!!

Great job everyone!! Keep on Rocking it!!!

Do you feel that exercise helps your immune system get stronger to recover from illness faster, or is that a myth? Congrats on stepping it up in adversity.

Yes, Absolutely! I get sick maybe once a year and my recovery time is definitely a lot faster! I got the flu last year(which was the first time in like 3 years) and recovered in about a week with no antibiotics. I don't believe in flu shots either. I honestly think is has more to do with proper nutrition than exercise though! 😉
