Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 09/04/18 > Peanuts, peanuts, get your… baby Jade.

in #dailydose6 years ago

Third times the charm...

I took part of my day on Monday to talk with an old friend of mine who just became a grandfather for third time, the old saying is the third time is the charm and so I guess the saying is true in this case, since his daughter in law gave birth to a healthy baby girl to go along with the two boys that preceded this precious gem.

Real gem...

Normally, I wouldn’t call a little baby girl a gem, I would say something like angel or blessing or some other cute little description that I can’t think of at the moment that would fit for a girl. But I use the word “gem” since the parents named this little baby “Jade.”

Let me call you back...

Victor is the grand dad and while Vic and were talking we were interrupted for a couple minutes while Vic had to calm his wife down. It was actually about ten minutes before Vic called me back.

Vic and his wife are watching Jade’s two older brothers while the boys’ parents are at the hospital; this Labor Day for their family was really labor and delivery day. The call interruption had to do with the five year old boy; he ate some peanut butter.

Not that we know...

That shouldn’t be any cause for alarm but Amy, Vic’s wife, was all worked up worrying that the young boy might be allergic to peanuts. I asked Vic if the boy had ever had a reaction to peanuts and the answer was “no”, but with a qualifier; “not that we know of.”

The fear...

After more discussion it turned out that the boys’ parents have never let them have anything that had any peanuts or peanut oil in it for fear that they might be allergic to peanuts. Vic told me that since so many kids now days are allergic to peanuts the parents didn’t want their kids eating any peanut or peanut products.

How many more...

How many more of these young parents are out there? Also, why are so many kids now days allergic to so many things like peanuts? I have my guesses on the second question but I don’t have a clue when it comes to the first one.

So while Vic and I talked on the phone he watched the two boys as they played on the floor near him, we talked for about twenty minutes and in that time the boy didn’t have any reaction to the peanut butter. I steered clear of discussing with Vic about the decision the boys’ parents had made about peanuts and just let that go.

My thinking...

It did get me to thinking though, could it be that we have jacked up the food supply so badly now with GMO and pesticides that we actually are making it where kids are allergic to more and more foods? I don’t even know if we should even be calling some of these things that we are growing food any longer.

Corn, carrots, or...

We always seem to hear peanuts brought up as the thing that has the most allergic reactions. Are any of these kids having reactions to corn, carrots or broccoli? I guess that even though our kids have some medical issues we are blessed they don’t have any food allergies.

Back in the day...

I can’t remember any of my friends or classmates growing up that were allergic to anything except maybe hard work. Even then, you could usually get a little work out of them before they had some excuse to have to stop. Back then though the farmers didn’t have Round Up to spray on their crops and GMO hadn’t been created that I am aware of.

Are you aware that there are now varieties of corn that actually kill the bugs when the bugs ingest the leaves of a corn plant? The farmers don’t even need to spray insecticide; it is already in the plant.

Scary stuff...

That is some scary stuff right there, and we wonder why kids are having so much issues with their digestive organs. It is happening so much now, that “leaky gut” is talked about by people in pediatric offices waiting rooms if you pay attention and eaves drop just a little.

Not a fan...

As you can pretty much tell, I am not a fan of GMO. Even if it was 100% safe and not one problem potentially existed I would still be against just from a farming stand point. I think it is bullshit that a farmer can’t keep part of his harvested seeds to plant his next year crop and with GMO that is strictly forbidden and if you try and do it you end up getting sued.
The big Farma companies, not to be confused with the other big Pharma , have a tight grip and the farmers and so the days of harvest and hold for next season are long gone. You are going to buy seed every year here in the USA or you aren’t going to be farming.

Baby Jade...

After I welled on that for about an hour my mind went to thinking about baby Jade, she isn’t even a day old yet and I am sure she has already started getting vaccination shots. Between vaccinations and the jacked up food no wonder we have such medical problems with our youngsters.

Wouldn't happen again...

I remember when our youngest daughter was born that she had at least three vaccination shots before she left the hospital. I can tell you right now that wouldn’t happen again if we were to have another child, which we won’t be. I am not a fan of some of these vaccinations that the government is pushing these days.

Where are you...

So where do you stand on vaccinations and GMO’s? And just what are your thoughts on why we are seeing so many young children with “food” allergies?

Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Sort:

I don't have any kids, but I wouldn't ever shelter my kids from life like that out of some irrational fear. I'm against forced vaccinations as well. I think their mostly a scam. And although I'd probably let my child(if I had one)eat pretty much whatever they wanted I would try to promote a healthy diet and help them try to avoid things like gmo's.

Thanks for dropping in and sharing your thoughts Derek. I think things have gotten out of hand on the numbers of government required vaccines and while some are definitely good some others are nothing more than a money maker for the companies and politicians.
Our bodies have an immune system that works and we really need to let it do its job.

Yep. Totally agree.

First off, an apology. My carefully crafted system of paying attention is buggy so I'm a little late to the party. Sigh.

I'm no fan of GMO's. As opposed to hybridized seed which has been going on since people started growing crops, and even before that. I hear people bellyachin' about seed breeding practices and get a burr under my collar.

GMOs on the other hand, are another deal entirely. Playing God with anything was never on our human agenda and has never worked out well for us. Playing God with the food chain seems incredibly stupid to me. Incredibly. Stupid.

Ag Chemicals (this might be the second rabbit hole for me this morning). Straight and simple the earth couldn't support 7 billion people if we didn't have farm chemicals. There just isn't enough usable dirt to do the deal. So chemicals are part of the equation in today's world. Like them or not, if you like eating on a regular basis they are part of it.

I'm going to defend RoundUp just a little. Not completely you understand, cause I DO think it is probably a carcinogen. When it first came out, it was a miracle. It wasn't labeled for crop usage for a number of years, and IT DID EXACTLY what it promised.

I believe the problems with RoundUp today is two fold. 1. It is now certified for direct application on edible seeds. Farmers use it to speed the ripening process on some crops so they can harvest before the weather turns foul. 2. Every dickhead with $50 in his pocket can go to a big box store and by the stuff for spraying around his yard. No education needed. Spray it around and make stuff be dead. You have to have good glasses to read the instructions, I can tell you that. When Joe Farmer goes to the ag dealer and gets RoundUp it comes with a nice big pamphlet that is incredibly detailed re: dose and use permissions. Some of them may even read it.

Well, there are at least 3 more potential rabbit holes in your post that I could happily jump down, but even I have limits. I can't believe that your buddy's grandkids don't know if they are allergic. Why not give them a very small sample and watch them carefully when you do? What happens when Johnny trades his perfect tuna sand for Bobby's Peanut Butter? If he is allergic? And puffs up like a snake bit pup in the class after lunch? Do you trust the teacher enough to save your kids life in an instant?

Arrrggghhh. That's like shitty dogs. It isn't the dogs fault at all. It's the owner.

Vaccines? Not today, I'm guessing you'll bring it up again and let me take my swings. If I start on vaccines Sam'll hate me for being late for our walk. Can't have that.

Thanks. This is what folks would call 'a pissringer' post where I grew up.

Well we surely see eye to eye on GMO's and that is a real area of concern. It is sad that here in the USA more attention is given on having to prove organic grown and GMO gets a pass on making it prominent on labeling of packages.
I think that Round Up to be used an initially intend for of total vegetation kill has its place and true that anyone can use or buy it. I do have a problem with the use of it on crops to speed up the harvest process, which is done quite frequently, those chemicals have to have a residual that stays in the plants.
As far as Vic's grand kids, I totally agree, before those kids get to school they need to know what if any foods they are allergic too. I just can't hardly believe the fear , I think it maybe more with wife since I know Vic's son pretty well and it doesn't sound like it is his thinking.
Snake bit pups are an awful sight, nice picture you painted there Tom.
I will surely bring vaccines up again, the Wednesday edition will have those again so no need to worry about being pressed for time today.
Thanks for weighing in, I enjoy every comment you make.
Pissringer , eh, nice one.

I find it alarming that so many people have food allergies nowadays, for sure the pesticides must have something to do with it!
I'm allergic to many medicines, also dare not use Elastoplast. Fortunately I don't often get ill, try and use natural medicine as far as I can.
As for vaccinations, I'm not a medical expert but I do believe some are necessary and life saving - Tuberculosis for one is vital here in South Africa as it's still quite rife. Polio also vital as it's incurable, although we're polio free it does crop up at times and can be fatal.
Hubby & I have the flu vaccine annually and it really works, Mom will not have it on the other hand! Well she's 87 so perhaps she's right, although that's only in respect of flu vaccines.
I know some people are dead against vaccines so expect a big debate here!

I am not looking for a debate to break out here, if it does I hope it will be at least a civil one, and none of the childish name calling for sure, and that is directed at others, not you for God's sake.

I do agree that some vaccines are necessary and work. My thing is, have we gone to far and for what reason? I know for a fact all these vaccines are not for the good of the person getting the shots, and I will share a story in the next daily dose about that.

I didn't intend this to be a two part story but I guess now it will be and you are the first to know it.

I stay pretty healthy myself and it might be because I don't eat vegetables, I can't prove that but in the back of my mind it makes me wonder. I haven't eaten veggies in over 4o years and I have a lot less health problems in my life than most of my friends who eat them.

I also have a book on natural medicine that I probably need to start reading as my years are starting to add up.

So we may have a hot topic here and I just hope cooler heads will prevail as we discuss things on this subject. I hope people read all the comments before commenting, hope for sure.

Another fantastic topic that I just have to comment on!!

The last time I was in the US, I had a conversation with my mother about a related topic. We were commenting on the number of people her age with Alzheimers, cancer, and other diseases that you just didn't see in these quantities in previous generations. While we spoke, it hit me that my mother--who is in her mid 70s--is probably the first of what I have now nicknamed, the "guinea pig generation". This is the generation that moved away from wholesome food--probably grown at home or nearby--and into processed food grown and raised with all kinds of extra chemicals. No matter how much testing they could have done on artificial colors, preservatives, pesticides, hormones, etc., there was no way to test the long term effects; that kind of testing takes time and cannot be accelerated.

What if what we are seeing now in our older generations coupled with the amount of intolerance we are seeing in younger generations are all the long-term results of this? I say this without any blame right now, because I truly believe that the beginning, scientists and consumers thought they were safe. But seeing the current state of affairs, I would encourage everyone to do a double take on what you put in your grocery cart!

Very well said and very valid points you make. Being able to keep something on the shelf longer in the store might be good for the store keeper and somewhat good for the consumer from an economic standpoint but at what cost to the consumer in their healthiness?
I think that the price that is paid over the "long term" is being shown now and we really need to rethink what we are doing to the food chain.
Thanks for such a good observation.

Can't agree with you more. Everything you said is spot on!!

It could be that great minds think alike or are drinking from the same water hole.

Or a little of both!

howdy sir sultnpapper! well sir, I follow the advice of some of the best natural health doctors who are also MD's and they wouldn't get vaccinations for themselves or their kids in most cases, I think a few they would but 90% they wouldn't and we all know about the sky-rocketing number of cases where perfectly normal kids became autistic after getting vaccinated. great post sir!

If you had asked me that question about vaccinations years ago I would have said yes, they are necessary. But since you asked me today...the answer is a qualified no. Years ago, vaccinations were carefully tested and quality controlled. Now it is all for the money and not necessarily to fight disease. They pump out new vaccinations like they are pumping out Skittles candy. Too many oopsies for my liking. Here the guy who owns the pharma company that manufactures the vaccines is also the minister of health. Now if that isn't a conflict of interest, I don't know what is. The clinics here push for everyone to get vaccinations and my family flatly refuses.

As far as GMO goes, I don't like science tinkering with my food. My kids had a lot of food allergies when they were little and when we delved into the problem we discovered it was food additives. So we went totally homegrown and organic for what we didn't grow and miracles of miracles, the allergies disappeared. That was more than 35 years ago and we haven't looked back.

Conflict of interest?, der ez no conflicta de interest, de man is justa bueno governmento officialli . In my best accented writing of a Nica native.

I think there vaccines that are surely good and necessary and I am with you after about four of five it becomes awful sketchy as to the need or whether it is greed.
It doesn't surprise me one bit that your boys food allergies ceased when you got them off a processed foods and on to home grown and organic.
It is amazing how well the bodies can work when you put the right fuel in them, they don't sputter and miss like an engine running on two year old gasoline.

FOR TSE: Don't get me started. Srsly. Just don't.

Also, I sent you a small gift from dustsweeper in lieu of an upvote, because I'd like my VP to recover and I know you can use DS. I'll double-check to make sure it arrives.

Well thank you very much, now move along before I get you revved up.

Well thank you very

I get you revved up.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

So where do you stand on vaccinations and GMO’s?

I think vaccines are good. Because of them, we no longer have to worry about polio and a host of other ills.

GMOs are not good, overall. That being said, I admit to rather liking seedless watermelons.

I also agree some vaccines are necessary and good, and as best I can tell the ones that I got have not had a negative affect on me. I don't know that the kept me from getting whatever they were protecting me from because I don't know that I was ever exposed to them.
But there are way, way more vaccines now then when you and I were getting shots and it is in my opinion way to many for small children's bodies to have to absorb.
We agree for sure on GMO, but I still like the seeds, I can plant them if I like.
