VIDEO GAMING PIONEER ATARI ANNOUNCES THAT THEY ARE OFFICIALLY JOINING THE BLOCKCHAIN
Just days ago on Feb. 15th, 2018, the legendary video gaming pioneer behind timeless classics such as PacMan and Tetris, announced that they are investing into cryptocurrency and joining the blockchain! Atari SA, a French based holding company which contains the original Atari Inc, made this announcement public on Thursday during a press conference in which they discussed their future plans pertaining to the cryptocurrency merge. From tapping into online casino gaming to launching their own gaming platforms, Atari is poised and ready to gain the upper hand by joining in on the advancement of today's booming technology, the blockchain.
Frederic Chesnais, Chairman and CEO of Atari SA quoted during Thursday's press release,
"Blockchain technology is poised to take a very important place in our environment and to transform, if not revolutionize, the current ecosystem, especially in the areas of the video game industry and online transactions. Our objective is to take strategic positions with a limited cash risk, in order to optimize the assets and the Atari brand"
The gaming legend has announced that they are in the process of creating their own digital currency, called the Atari Token. The currency will be used for blockchain based entertainment provided by Atari and structured on a platform created by their partner, Infinity Networks Ltd. Atari has reported staking roughly 17.5% of Infinity Networks Ltd, meaning they own roughly 17.5% of the company. Retro gaming enthusiasts can rest easy knowing classic gaming will make an appearance on the blockchain, with releases such as PacMan, Tetris and even Pong announced to make a debut with this launch. Not only will we see timeless classics re-emerge, but newer titles are expected to follow suit as they are released from the gaming giant.
Atari SA also announced their active partnership with massive online gaming and casino company, Pariplay Ltd. Pariplay and Atari have come together to make Atari classics such as Space Invaders and Pong available to gamble with, on various blockchain based platforms. With this partnership comes Atari's second digital currency launch, the Pong Token, which is designed to be used within the online casino gaming industry. A new era of the classic bar game is finally being born and built upon one of today's greatest technological achievements, blockchain technology!

Almost immediately after the press release came a sudden increase in the price of Atari SA stock all across the board, as reported by Bloomberg. With the announcement of their decision to join the blockchain and recent announcements of projects such as the Ataribox, the company seems to be set in a positive motion, promoting growth with their investors and showing promising results. As seen in the picture above, in just a few days time there has been at least a ten cent gain on each unit of stock, and this is based on just a press release.
The Ataribox, which is the company's long awaited return to console gaming, is expected to be financially comparable to the initial launch of the Nintendo Wii. The release of this long awaited console will skyrocket the cost of Atari SA stock to extremely profitable numbers to say the least, especially during the pre-order sales. Let's not forget the merger into blockchain tech which will push the stocks even higher. Either way you draw it up, it's looking like a good year for Atari SA, their partners and an even better year for the investors who buy in while the shares are still low!

What way to get more money from their fans. Atari was one of the gratest publishers that existed, but the last game that was not a cash grab and not complete rubbish, as far as I am aware, was Baldur's Gate and that game released ages ago(2013?).
With their affords on milking great titles such roller coster tycoon on mobile platforms I completely lost my faith in this company. Although I approve of big companies using the Blockchain technology, they use it to let people gamble on games that are now 30 years old.

Hey, I mean give them some credit, its not just a cash grab. They are attempting to break back into console gaming without solely milking classic titles. Ive seen they are supposed to release new titles available for streaming with the Ataribox. I can appreciate both preserving classics on the blockchain and releasing new titles as well.
It's great that Atari is getting into blockchain but the Atari Token feels like a cash grab, what possible purpose could the token have that could not already be fulfilled by an existing token?
I can only imagine it being a way to keep currency in house and cut down on having to exchange in house. Ease of use probably if you want to chalk it up to something.
I get that, but I wonder if it will not be more effort to build your own token and get people to adopt it than to just use an existing currency. Something like WAX would probably work well for what they want to do.
You have a good point there though. I might have to do some looking into that and possibly add that on as another article.
