My ROCK painting ART and how to make yours - TUTORIAL

in #craft6 years ago

Art is everywhere, you just need to find it. You just need to make it. Limits are only in your mind.

A couple of years ago I started painting on rocks that I found in a nearby river. All of my rocks are hand-picked from the river Sava that runs through my city. They are cleaned and boiled in water, dried and then ready to become little pieces of art.

When I started to play with art, this was the first thing that I did. It was before I took on canvas painting, sculpting and sewing. Rocks were small and presented a tiny piece of nature that I could incorporate into my creativity that wanted to burst out. They reminded me of my childhood when I was collecting tiny rocks and painting them with my crayons.

YOU WILL NEED...

  • rocks in all shapes and sizes
  • acrylic paint
  • transparent primer coating
  • hot glue gun
  • various buttons, seashells and tiny decorations

When you go out looking for your rock try to keep two things in your mind. You will need those that are calling you in some way, those that are pretty to you and on the other hand, they will need to have one smooth surface or at least semi-smooth. If you choose to paint them only, without writing on them, smooth surface is then not needed.

When you find your perfect rocks, you will need to clean them. Put them in boiling water and boil them for 5 to 10 minutes then rinse and dry them out. When they are clean and dry, you can begin with your art creation.

Use your colours to paint your rocks. You can use any colour you wish, let your imagination run wild. Paint them in many or paint them in only one colour of your choosing. You can use paintbrushes or even your fingers. Have fun with it.

I usually work on a couple of them simultaneously because you will have to wait for the one side of the rock to dry before turning it over to paint on the other sides. While you are waiting for one rock to dry, you can paint the others.

When all of your work is dried, you can begin with decoration. You can write inspirational messages on your rocks, names or whatever you like. Choose small buttons, googly eyes, metal or wooden decorations and decide where to put them. Use your glue gun and stick them to your rocks.

The final thing you need to do is cover your rocks with transparent primer coating so they could be exposed to elements without them damaging it. If you choose to keep your rocks in your home this part is not needed since I presume there is no rain inside your house.

These rocks are a perfect gift for someone because there is nothing better to receive from a person than the thing he or she made with her own hands. When you buy a gift, you are giving your money.

When you MAKE a gift you are giving your time and a piece of yourself to another person.

The best and most genuine art comes from playing. Your creativity is there, maybe not on the surface, but it is there. Find it and play with it. What do you have to lose? Here are some more pictures of my rocks. Some of them are sold but the most of them were given as gifts.

I hope these images have inspired you to go and make some for yourself. We are all artists, and we are all creative in our own way. Do not let anyone convince you otherwise. Play with your time, and play with your life. Smile and enjoy every moment. Bask in the beauty of life.

I never done this before, in fact I was collecting rocks and sea shells when I was younger, but never to decorate them.
I have to say my daughter is delighted, I am showing her right now what you have done, and she loves it.
I am doomed to paint pebbles this whole summer...

That is how I started so good luck, soon you will have your house filled with rocks ihihhihi :D Hugs to you and your daughter and have fun 💚💚💚

Ladybugs are adorable!!! You are right, art is everywhere.

My niece who is 12 is painting rocks from beach every summer and selling as souvenirs to tourists in Budva. Believe me, in summer she earns more per day than me. :)))

I believe you. I once sold a rock for 70kn, but I usually just give them away as gifts.

I love them. Absolutely love them.

I have a friend who says all things of earth have life. The rocks take so long between breaths that we often think otherwise.

There is a local Mexican Art cooperative that are making wire sculptures with rocks as a part. They are pretty clever, and very attractive. And no, sadly, I don't have any photos.

Thanks for sharing your art with us Petra.

Thank you for your love 💚 I am happy to read that you like them

I think we all did that as kids, that is why I still do it, to remind myself to stay a kid 💚

These are wicked. create designs I love the gathering of ladybirds!

Theres a game over the in the UK called "Town Name" Rocks and people paint rocks and hide them all over the place. Children go out looking for them and then rehide and post it on a FB group.

Your's would be much desired = D

Wow! That sounds like a lot of fun!

Beautiful art and sayings on the rocks. I like the one with the maiden, mother, crone saying.

Thank you, that rock is special to me too 💚
