Top 5 Blogging Tips

in #community7 years ago (edited)

The main problem that bloggers are faced with is that very few visitors read their blog posts right till the very end. Bloggers might blame it on the short attentions spans that people have and millions of websites on the web that vie for attention.

But the truth is that your content may not be having enough in it to make the reader start at the beginning and end at the last sentence of your post.

In order to do so you must change the way your content looks. Here are 5 tips on how you can make your blog posts attractive.

Showcase Content

First let me tell you why you should spend some time changing the way your content looks.

Most people spend less than a few seconds on a web page before either exiting from the site or going to another page on your website. This is the reason why none of them reads posts till the very end.

Secondly, even if the content is shared across social platforms it may not be read through completely, which means that there are different things that a blog post needs other than just being shared and promoted.

Hence your blog content has to be readable for the average blog visitor so that he reads till the end of the post. It should not be too long and must convey what it needs to say in as short a time frame as possible, when the reader goes through it.

Use Sub Headers

While reading a long blog post a visitor tends to absorb the essence of the article by looking for the main points in the content. In order to help the reader, you can have sub headers in the post so that the reader instantly knows what the next few lines are going to be about.

The sub headers must be simple and must point the reader towards the meaning of the lines that follow it.

Write Short Sentences

Keep the length of your sentences to less than 15 words so that they are easily readable. Your blog visitors may not consist of only the most highly educated and literate people. There may be others who may not be in the habit of reading much and may have varying levels of education.

The best way to ensure that everyone reads and understands your content is to keep your sentences short and simple. The longer the sentences used in the post the higher are the chances of the reader getting lost in your content and he will then look for a way out. On the other hand, short sentences will keep him reading on, to know what comes next.

Break down the complex and simple and use short sentences when you put it out to the reader.

Use Common Words & Phrases

It is very important that the words and phrases that you use must be easy to understand and must be in common use, and a part of everyday language.

A good thumb rule to follow could be to make sure that there are no words that need the reader to look up the dictionary. If there are words or phrases that the reader does not understand, he will immediately leave the page.

In fact if you use commonly used words and phrases most readers will identify with your content and will be able to read the entire post without any issue.

Short Paragraphs

If you look at any of the popular blogs you will notice most of the popular blogs on the internet use small paragraphs in their posts.

A huge block of text will certainly intimidate the reader and he will go away immediately thinking that your content is too difficult for him to read.

A small block of text, on the other hand will make the content easily digestible for the reader. It will allow him to move from one block of text to another without any strain.

Besides, spaced out text always looks more attractive on a blog page than a single blog of text with hundreds of words in it.

If you follow these 5 tips you will be able to ensure that visitors who start reading your content read it till the end.

Wish you good luck!
