How To Meditate By Following Just ONE WORD! | It's NOT An Art Nor A Science, Just A Single Word | Cut The Crap & Complexities OUT of Meditation

in #spirituality7 years ago (edited)

For those of you who can't "get it" about meditation, in how many different ways have you tried to meditate? How much money would you spent learning the latest course on meditation?

Truth be told, it may seem that you have tried to meditate a zillion times but each time you give up after a few days. You follow instructions to the T if you are doing a course or if you have a teacher to get you started. But every time it is the same story and after a few days you are back to square one. You decide that it is just too difficult.

How To Meditate?

But with so many ways to do meditation, you may ask, which one do you follow?

Not only are there different ways to meditate, but there are different styles of meditation depending which part of the world you are in - and even then there are various ways to follow the traditional way of meditation!

Here is what I discovered after years of searching for the right way of meditation - it is so deep that the deeper you delve into it, the more you will lose focus of the main objective of meditation.

The main reason why most people would like to meditate is for a relief from stress in the short term, and clarity of thought with peace of mind for the long term. For these reasons what should you do to start with?

One Word

The answer is just too simple, almost too good to be true and it is just one word like I promised in the title - breathe.

The closest that anyone comes to explaining it as simplistically is a meditation guru whose name is Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese monk who lives in France. According to him, in his own words, "just enjoy breathing."

Have you heard of the KISS principle? Keep it stupid simple, and that is what usually what gets you the best results in anything that you do. To meditate just breathe, and try to enjoy your own breathing. Not too difficult, especially considering the fact that breathing is what keeps us all alive in the first place!

For many, the basic simplicity could be a little difficult at first because you don't have the usual apps, no videos and not even a Facebook group to give you a boost of encouragement!

Breathing is the very foundation of our lives and basic meditation consists of breathing. When you focus on your breath, you will start living in the present and not in the past or future like everyone usually is. When you start living in the moment you will start experiencing joy and happiness, like you've never felt before.

Practice Anywhere

The advantage of enjoying your breathing is that you can enjoy it and practice meditation anywhere because you tale your breath with you wherever you go.

Sitting while meditating is one way that you can do it. You can focus on your breath wherever you want, while going for a walk, sitting on the train or while on board a flight. When you feel your mind wander, come back to the present by noticing your breath and you're back.

There are hundreds of distractions in a single day and you get distracted whether you're at home or work or anywhere outside. But within a flash you can come back to the moment by getting into your breath. It is the greatest gift that you can give yourself in life - joy and happiness in the present moment.

Conclusion

It could be a bit difficult to start with, all alone with only your breath. But after a you practice a few times it will be second nature to you. Concentration and mindfulness are the easiest ways to achieve long term happiness.

There are many other ways to go deep into meditation and you are free to choose from among them. But practice enjoying your breathing first and observe the difference that it makes to your life.

"Concentration and mindfulness are the easiest ways to achieve long term happiness" Great post @maxabit !

Thank you! Glad you liked the post.

Watching the breath leads to watching the mind. Watching the mind leads to freedom. How? When we lose focus on breathing (or whatever focus we have) and the mind takes us on a journey, when we realize and come back to breathing, we also realize what journey the mind took us on. With time this shows us what the mind actually is. I doubt there is something more important to learn than what the mind is. Upvoted.

Well said. Thanks for your comment!
