I was hoping to buy an iPhone X in the days ahead and did a bit of research on it. I know some of you may be also planning to buy it so what better than sharing what I learnt on Steemit!

Introduction

It was ten years ago that the first iPhone was released and at that time no one imagined that it would become one of the world's biggest icons among personal devices. There have been lot of criticisms targeted at subsequent iPhones but it has reigned supreme as the leader in the smartphone space especially where technology is concerned.

The latest version of the iPhone is fittingly nomenclatured as the iPhone X where X is the Roman numeral for ten(signifies 10 years of iPhones). A few days ago Tim Cook launched the iPhone X at an event that must have been watched by tens of thousands of people around the world.

As always rumors surface first several months in advance and the case of the iPhone X was no exception. However, now that the phone has been launched we have the most authentic information and I will be glad to give you the rundown in this post.

Although the iPhone X stole the show I must also mention that Apple also announced the launch of the iPhone 8 as well as the iPhone 8 Plus.

Animoji stands for animated emoji. This is a unique feature and a big first one from an iPhone that has created a buzz in social media. Apple fans are thrilled with the fact that they can now animate emojis the way they want. When you make your own expression the emoji will emulate the same expression the screen. This is achieved by the use of true depth technology and face mapping features that the new iPhone comes with.

Basically you go into the emoji apps and choose one you want and make an expression that you would like. The emoji starts mimicking your expressions and you can watch it on the screen. You can record the expressions as you change them or take a still image to insert in your message.

Processor

The iPhone X has the Bionic A11 processor that is not only the most powerful that Apple has made but is also currently the most powerful among all smartphones. It is 25% faster than the previous processor the A10 and can use all its six cores if required - very useful for those who multitask using various apps. It is also advanced in terms of taking images and as a result the camera can shoot better in low light and come out with clearer images, along with a noise reduction component.

Screen Features

What would you expect as a top notch screen? I think maximum screen space with an ultra clear display is what would be expected. You got it, because the iPhone X has a bezel that is ultra thin leaving loads of screen space edge-to-edge. Apple has done away with the home button too so that it does not interfere with your complete screen experience.

You have to just swipe sideways or up or down to get to any app or function. If you have an app open you swipe it away from below which takes you to the main screen with the app icons on it and then you choose the next app that you would like to use. You can toggle between the apps by swiping the open windows sideways after swiping in from any app that is open and holding it for a second. To access the controls you have to swipe down from the top right, and for notifications swipe down from the top left. So you can get around anywhere on the phone with mere swipes without ever needing a home button.

In order to unlock the button you no longer have to use the home button - instead the new Face ID feature makes an entry into the iPhone that I will come to in a bit.

The 5.8 inch OLED screen is the best as if now among displays across similar devices. Looking at it I could only say that it is the most attractive display on any smartphone that I have ever seen.

The power button which is also used to activate Siri is bigger in the new phone mainly because it will be used much more than previous versions. You press it for a couple of seconds to call Siri. Apple has also done away with the ubiquitous headphone jack.

Whether you frequent areas that have dust or a wet environment you need not worry because the phone is both water as well as dust proof. Needless to say the glass is tough and cannot be broken or cracked easily.

The back is made of high quality glass and can be used for wireless charging. It is very grippy and you don't have to ever worry about dropping your phone.

Camera

The 12 MP camera is the best in the smartphone business and dual camera offers a lot of features including optical image stabilization and sensors for detecting area depth. If you like to play with zoom before clicking pictures you will like the optical as well as digital 10X zoom for images. Moreover you also get a 6X zoom for videos which is awesome if you shoot films from a distance.

There is so much to the camera as you can see in the image above. The dual cameras have an aperture of 2.4 and 1.8. The camera offers a plethora of light effects for selfie portraits and a variety of options come up when you are about to take a selfie with your phone. You can also easily get great images in portrait mode with different blurred backgrounds.

Charging

The smartphone charging process is undergoing a revolution with wireless charging and Qi wireless chargers will used to charge the new phones. This is the next level in smartphone related technology and is already in use with some of the high end Android phones.

The battery is powerful as well and the iPhone X runs 2 hours more than the iPhone 7 on a single charge.

Face ID

This is the most amazing feature that is unmatched in the smartphone world. Your face can be mapped with the help of infrared technology that recognizes dots formed of your face. This image is then used to unlock the phone or even make payments. So you only have to look at the phone and in 2 seconds your phone will unlock itself.

The technology creates 30,000 dots on your face and maps it down to the last detail so that there is no mistake when you look at the screen to unlock it.

The beauty of this new feature is that even if you change certain aspects your face like hair color, wear glasses or use extensive make up it will still recognize you. This is thanks to the advanced A11 chip that is in the phone.

By the way you have to be looking at the phone with open eyes or else the phone will not recognize you.

Conclusion

The Apple iPhone X will be available in space grey and silver colors and you can purchase it from Nov 3 this year. There is nothing like it in the market, with so many advanced features and unique aspects like Face ID. It is not only worth the high price but considering the fact that Apple iPhones always hold an excellent resale value you can go ahead and purchase one if you like the features and design.
