Van Conversion - Replacing The Windscreen
Just rolling on down the road . . . . and BANG - The windshield cracks! Must have been that deep pothole I went over! I have never had that happen to me before. That's the pitfalls of motoring in U.K.
Over the next couple of miles, the 6 inch fracture slowly creeps across the windscreen like a bead of water seeking a downhill route. Back at base, the fracture is now 2 foot long. Time to replace it!.
One insurance call, a couple of hours and a £75 excess. Two guys turn up. After 5 minutes of jovial conversation, they spring into action and take out the old screen (together with the bonnet / hood).

That took them literally 5 minutes to take out!

The replacement, which i am told costs £180, is prepared, cleaned with some sort of glass cleaner and ready to go. The old sealant was stripped and then new sealant applied. Then, it was just a case of pushing the glass into place and replacing the hood. Bingo . . . . Done!

A bit of Q&A with the fitters . . . apparently the hardest vehicles to do a windscreen replacement on, is a convertable!
They said it takes around 30 minutes before it was ready to drive and that it takes a full 7 days for the sealant to fully set.
I could have done without that incident, but that's life! We never know what is around the bend!

I love the alien mask! Hey, that vest on the other seat can be handy! That might be why you have it ----> disguise! Have it on the seat just like that when you stealth camp in a city or town. People think the van is a commercial van and won't report it.
Sorry about the windshield. That was money you needed to further work on the van.
RCs now low from posting and answering. Takes 4 days!!!! to fully recharge. sigh.
Alien? AAh that one lol - Yeah... Glows in the dark too!
The High Vis Jacket adds to the 'White-Van-Man' image in towns, so will not attract too much attention. That's why i didn't want a 'show-room' finish on the body work - a couple of dints n sctratches also adds to it.
No big deal on the window.....
I would of taken a picture of the pothole and get a claim in.
Glad you're ok though, never pleasant to go through these things.
Nooo! Did it not have a hairline crack that didn't take the bump well? Amazing how fast the windscreen was changed @preppervetuk!
No it 'just went'...
