Road Trip Van Conversion - Finalising The Floor Foundations

in #blog6 years ago

Busy Busy Busy! Now the floor was finally ready for it's final paint! Not one coat, but two coats of Hammerite paint. (Definately an ALL day job).

What a transformation from the original state!
MIV RELAY VAN CONVERSION - INSIDE BACK.JPG Some sore fingers, endless sweeping, plenty of trips to the dump and getting high on paint fumes, the foundations of my van were complete!

All the sides have been treated, plugged and coated too.

It's amazing what a transformation with some paint can do. Now on to the next phase, although i think the progression of visual impact may be a bit slower - Laying the insulation and the floor.

Looks great! Nice and even too. Looks like you spray painted rather than used a brush. Clean and fresh...ready for the build. Hey, by doing it this way you won't have mystery smells coming from the floor and walls later on.

Good point!
(I used a ROLLER for the TWO coats of white) - A good tip and a quicker method for painting was to trim down my roller to the size of the grooves..

AH, I see. Note to self. 😎

ha! what a thing of beauty preppervetuk! great job on getting a solid foundation to start with. hey do you know about bambam808? he has a survival/prepper blog with a survival podcast and all kinds of stuff to help people prepare, I was reminded of you I saw it and thought you might want to check it out but you probably already know about his work.

I'll check him out... Thanks man.

yes sir. my pleasure.

Wow! What a difference a couple coats of paint make. How long do you think it will take for the makeover to be complete?

From past experience, projects like these never finish - There is always something to do on them...
But I am aiming for Feb at the outside for completion.

And then? Out to test run?

We will be using it for the odd overnight trip well before then....
Hopefully, next Spring, we will circumnavigate Britain and see all the places we've wanted to see..
Should be a great Road-Trip... & Double up as a liveable Bug Out Vehicle too.

You will have to blog about the Great British Road Trip 2019! With lots of photos, of course!

AAh but of course....

Looking awesome! Definitely excited to see what you turn this into! I love old van rebuilds!

I dont plan on it mirroring a motorhome level result, just something that is half decent and does the job.... The original state was really bad (as you can see from the pictures)... Although the Vehicle is only 5 years old.
(Something to keep me occupied with too).
