Cirque Du Soleil - Illustration Series by J-VO

"The Sun Stands for Engergy and Youth - Which is What I Thought the Circus Should Be About" — Guy Laliberte

I absolutely love Cirque Du Soleil! The colors, the amazing acrobatic skill, the energy of the characters and the riveting conceptual storyline - it's a hell of a show. I have always wanted to attend one live, but I have yet to be able to do so. I have, however, seen several of their shows by watching it on video - and they are just amazing, even in that format.

I decided to do a series of 3 in tribute, focusing on three of my very most favorite: "Saltimbanco", "O", and "Quidam". I drew them all with pastel pencils on 18"x24" colored matte board. I chose the colored matte board for two reasons, I really liked the slight texture they had which I thought would do well to hold the medium, and I liked that they all had a colored ground already - so I didn't have to worry about prepping that before hand.

Each piece took me a few days to complete.

"Saltimbanco"

This show whose name translates literally into "jumping on boards" is meant to be an exploration of the urban existence. Its extremely colorful and energetic as it immerses viewers into a lively dreamlike metropolis and explores concepts of diversity, hope and love.

"O"

This is an amazing water themed show, pushing the visual dynamics from towering heights to watery depths. The colors, lights, and water create an exhilarating experience - a true feast for the eyes. A tribute to "infinity and elegance of water's pure form," and features synchronized swimming accompanied by aerial and ground acrobatics.

"Quidam"

Quidam follows a young girl who has grone incredibly bored, she feels neglected and ignored by her parents and thus dreams up this fantasy world in an effort to escape the monotonous structure of her own reality. This show has its creepy elements, a headless figure in a bowling hat who carries an umbrella - meant to me someone and no one at the same time. This topsy-turvy world is breathtakingly whimsical!

I hope you enjoyed these - have you ever enjoyed a Cirque Du Soleil show - if so which one? Let me know in the comments below - perhaps you will give me inspiration to do more in this series! If you liked what you saw, please consider an upvote and/or a resteem :) Thank you, as always, for the amazing support :)

Until next time my dear friends, STEEM ON!

with love, — @j-vo

Nicely done! Not only are you good with the camera, but have good hand skills as well!

Thank you - I actually started with drawing and painting when I was 5, and taking pictures has always been a hobby/side passion! Your comments are so appreciated :D

Since 5 y/o! Wow, that explains a lot. When I was 5, I was still trying to master staying in the lines when coloring -- haha

LOL! Yeah, I definitely was too - but I was really into drawing and painting allllll the time lol, thanks to my grandfather who would always let me water color paint when I would go over there, even though my grandma would fuss about the mess! :D
