Dayjob Ended. Hello Steemit!

in #freedom8 years ago (edited)

Dear readers,

Just spent my last day in office. Probably a lil too happy at the moment, but I'm glad that I now have more time for Steemit and other interests that matter to me.

So here's what I will be pursuing:-

  1. Continue helping Steemit diversify value recognition with Project Curie.
  2. Running a music event company, partially powered by Steemit.
  3. Decentralized urban farming (this may pivot into something that's easier to execute).
  4. Start travelling around. Be mobile.
  5. Work-out, maybe start dancing again.
  6. Have fun creating content and finding ways to contribute to the Steemit community.
  7. Improve my writing and expression. Here's my best performing article so far.
  8. Make more time for family and friends.
  9. Continue learning to develop for Ethereum.

Excited that I'm entering a new phase tomorrow. My mind is unbelievably free now. Thanks for getting me out of a dark place, Steemit. I promise to try to get others out too.

Regards,
@kevinwong

PS: I'm opening up a few slots of collaborative writing. Let's work on something together. I like to simplify complex ideas. Only considering Rep > 55 at the moment. Drop by steemit.chat if interested!

This was an awesome read!

We all wish we had more time to Steem so this post resonate with all of us.

Thanks brother! I've a friend who just came back from New Zealand yesterday and he's a handyman super into sustainability-related stuff and all that. When I told him about this - his eyes opened up twice larger than usual lol! I think we're gonna see some open designs for home improvements :) so yes, I think people would love more time with Steemit to express/show whatever they've been doing..

Congratulations Brother!
This is a HUGE deal and a true life changer!
I am so excited for you as I have not had a job/boss in 15 years!
It truly is priceless and I would never go back. I would live homeless on the streets or in the woods with nothing but a knife (both of which I have done) before slaving away!
I wish you the best and I will follow and support you here on Steemit.
This platform sure does make it a lot easier to be independent and "free"
Bless~*~

Thanks for the support man :)
I've been meaning to drop you a message asking about how you started building what you're doing now - garden of eden am i right? It would be a fun chat - are you on steemit.chat?

Yes indeed!
It is a truly extraordinary thing and I am trying to make a breakthrough here on Steemit to get inspiring example out there as living in sustainable community is a fantastic life and a solution to most of the problems we face in life!
I am on chat with same name. I am super grateful you are inspired and interested.
Be in touch~*~

I really hope this works out nicely for you Kevin. Your presence here is certainly appreciated.

Thanks @anotherjoe. I've been following parts of your Vision of Regeneration for Haiti series and it would be great to see a compilation of necessary initiatives and a call to action for the community (especially when the platform grows larger!)

Thanks for your support, Kevin. I appreciate it. I have two more in the series, ending Friday. It's been a rewarding experience to see some folks get interested. Today's articled bombed, but you win some lose some.
I'm hoping to make enough off the series to go to Haiti about a month from now. The last two would really have to knock it out of the park to do so. But I'll send whatever the last one makes if I can't go myself. It's not an unreasonable amount for Steemit, but I just don't have the following to pull it off without something pretty amazing happening.

It's alright brother. Steemit is still a baby, it's a good time to grow your following atm. Who knows what'll happen in 3, 6, 9, 12 months down the road :) Keep doing what you care about. It shines in your posts - i see it :)

Thanks man. Appreciate it.
Yeah, I've picked up a decent following in a short time. My writing is sort of eclectic, and I don't know if I want to narrow it or just keep posting different things. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks again!

again, congratulations and all the best to you!
If you want to start dancing again, I'll be the coach hahaha. no jk but seriously, congrats on quitting your job, now you'll have much more time for yourself and to work on the things you enjoy!

I was stuck on the road for 4 hours yesterday with so many cars on the road. But I didn't mind. I'm over it :D Thanks brother, I'll brush up my dance so we'll have dance off next time lol

Can you get me out? :)

What is it that you seek for? :)

Well I'd like to make enough to not have to worry about making the rent each month for my family and I. At the moment my significant other is the only one working and we have 2 kids to take care of. We can't afford day care at the moment so I am staying at home with the little one. It would be great to make a little extra income so we wouldn't be so stressed about bills each month... ya know? :)

@kevinwong, what are your thoughts regarding exponential tech growth, possible technological unemployment, and potential universal basic income?

The reason I ask is that I've been interested in building an A.I. that can help people reach financial freedom faster and free their time so they can live less stressed, living in their purpose each day, and sharing their gifts with the world to make it a better place for everyone. How many people are working for income, trading time for money, feeling stressed to pay the bills?

If linear institutions become overwhelmed due to exponential disruption, and presumably governments are too reactionary, what might the consequences be if none steps up to the plate fast enough to help?

Can private enterprise or communities such as the Steemit community and others like it help to resolve this potential crisis before it may unfold?

Curious to hear anyone's thoughts on some of this stuff.
What can we as a community do to help people like @jrcornel faster?

@jrcornel, thanks for sharing. Friends stick together.

I believe that we can do anything we set our mind to.

I just read @jrcornel comment and I'd like to continue the discussion to see what all of us can do together to help one another faster by combining our unique talents.

I thought of replying this, but turn out to be worthy of a post alone.. thanks man! Will ping you when I get this article out :)

The best thing about Steemit is that you can try, experiment bringing value to the table and let the "free market" decide. And such experiments take place at a super fast pace, just type up a post.. learn from it then improve on it. Gave you a follow.. and come onto Steemit.chat! :)

You got it. Thanks for your input! It is much appreciated :)

Congrats man! Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with and growing alongside ya.

Dittos on learning to develop for Ethereum!

@blakemiles84, what's up?
I'm interested in Ethereum as well.
Would love to see where y'all go from here with Steemit, Ethereum, and beyond.

I'm seeing it like this ... bitcoin is the main drive chain that allows all other cryptocurrencies to store value.... Ethereum is the smart contract platform with flexibility and business/fintech applications... Steem has the potential to become an ecosystem of content, sidechains, marketplaces, and whatever else creative minds can come up with.

I see Bitcoin and Ethereum as interacting directly for sure. Steemit still has a lot of growing to do, but I'm obviously confident enough in the concept to invest time and money into it.

Likewise man :)
Been 2-3 months for us but it already feels like a long time. This platform is really fast-moving (at least when you're on it for a few hours each day!)

It sounds like a very long list of things you plan to do, I hope you will make it. I like urban farming idea a lot.

Growing your own food is a major money savor and health upgraded!
Get into it!
I founded the most sustainable community in the country and am on Steemit! @gardenofeden

It sounds like something I would read about.
Followed, but I don't understand is it about the food or organic farming?

Well if you READ every article and you check the web site you will BEGIN to get an idea.
Though in truth it is a WHOLE New Paradigm covering all the essentials of life.
If you want to see a life of true sustainability, true freedom and honest self expression then look no further!

Yes thank you very much for that.
i know everyone works hard, I know people spend a lot of time on their Steemit posts and other facets of life, but not only do I work 7 days a week but it also results in feeding 40,000 free meals a year. At age 33 I have already fed more free meals most people would in 10 lifetimes.
Would be great to get the kind of support some people get on here for fighting with each other on public posts...

Well as u stated it is wide spread topics which logically concludes we cover many themes =)>

Thanks.
The articles' topics on @gardenofeden are quite wide spread and by titles it is not clear if they cover one or many themes.

It looks like those new year resolution lists that usually gets tossed out the window midway lol, I probably wouldn't be able to consistently do some of those but I'll try :) Thanks, it's still a difficult idea to pull off without proper localization (since plants generally need different climates and soil)

One thing done well is better than hundred done poorly.
Some things are definitely difficult and I don't doubt they will require more effort.

Well said brother. I have plenty of interests.. but I think what I love most is actually writing (I've been writing for as long as I can remember, but never used it for money, and suddenly there's an avenue to present ideas and stories on Steemit.. working pretty well for me atm)

I bet it feels nice to say goodbye to the office! Much excitement with maybe a tingle of apprehension which is perfect for motivation. Nice To Do list; I think those things will keep you busy and satisfied. Wishing you all the best!

Well I had a bit of a sentimental moment yesterday lol, but I seriously went through mental torture for the past few years going through crazy traffic everyday and doing something that I couldn't relate much to (although it paid well). Thanks for the well wishes, the same goes to you!

It's an ocean out there. All new and enjoy it.

Wow that is a really brave move. It shows how much faith you have in Steemit. Best of luck:)

Relatively easy move for me as I do not have much commitments at the moment :) Thanks man! All the best to all of us :)

Exactly it's the best time to try it. All the best:)

The time is NOW!

Nothing beats the present moment!

No truer words have ever been spoken~*~

I'm glad you're in luck ! Maybe once and I'm lucky ...

Certainly lucky that I got welcomed by the smaller group when I joined earlier. If it wasn't for acceptance of diversity, I wouldn't have gotten the support. So I will continue this process with Project Curie or any other projects promoting content diversity on Steemit :)
