[Blog #26] MTB training | 35 Km | Evolution With DSLR camera

in #actifit6 years ago (edited)

Good friiiiday, readers! Another try with the bike and the camera - The evolution of a newbie photographer!

It's been quiet over here, lovely readers. Don't you think? Suspicious... But it's for a good reason! Yesterday I spent most of the time studying photography, and when I was not studying photography I was trying to take photos. I'm loving it, it activates a lot of creativity, something I was missing on my last job.

So, Today was kinda cloudy and cold when I woke up; it's funny that everyday I'm anxious to go out cycling to try what I've learned the weather changes. Bastard! However, I got out anyway, I believe that things don't happen for those who wait. Right?

What follows is my well known cycle training to the beach, passing by the hidden forest - where I like to go to be away from anyone else, there I can do whatever I want without being observed. The most important subject in this post is my evolution with the Nikon D7100, the first DSLR I put my hands on. So let's dive into it!

Ah! My biggest gratitude to @sina-adventure, a good friend from Iran who took his time to explain me all the settings on the camera. He's an amazing photographer, you should check out his page!

I was checking some photos of bikes on google to inspire me when I came across the ones with a blurred background and the bike upfront, they looked like a catalog. Taking a photo similar to those was my goal for the day. With @sina-adventure tips noted on a paper, I set everything and started working with the basic settings on manual. Kudos to the tree branch for supporting my bicycle.

All I basically knew was that the background should be away from me, the aperture should be fully opened and I should try using maximum focal length. Then light was going to be set using shutter speed. Ok, let's try it then. Check the result.

Trying 'catalog like' image with blurred background.

Camera Nikon D7100
Lens Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105 mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR
Settings ISO-100| 1/40s | f/5.6 | 180mm
Location Hidden Forest, Somewhere

I kinda liked the result and it turned out pretty after editing on Lightroom, however I wanted the background to be more blurred. Not to mention sharpness, I don't know if it has something to do with focus as I'm still adjusting my eyes to focus properly - it's quite a challenge when you've got myopia. Gotta try that again.

Then I moved to try the conceps I learned on different positions, just to mess around.

Trying different f values to see what happens.

Camera Nikon D7100
Lens Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105 mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR
Settings ISO-100| 1/10s | f/11 | 22mm
Location Hidden Forest, Somewhere

During this ride I recorded some videos that I plan to edit tomorrow, IF they turn out cool you'll see my first vlog. I must admit that I'm excited about that and terrified to se myself on video. That's a surprise reserved for tomorrow.

Day passed real quick while wandering up and down the forest. Suddenly, at some point, the sun appeared in between the trees showing an amazing light color. I don't know anything about colors, but just saying it I sound more professional Haha. This deserves a try - I thought.

That's when I got mesmerized with the results! Being a potato myself it's unimaginable that I'd do something as cool as this. Please, criticize me on the comments.

I believe the sun helped a lot.

I love my bike.

Sexy hydraulic brakes.

After all this I went to the beach, as usual, and took some photos of the pier, which I think you are already fed up already, so I won't post. The day was amazingly productive and I've learned a lot about camera handling on practice, I believe that from now on it'll be all about evolution. Thanks for reading and see you tomorrow.

It would be much appreciated if real photographers could give their opinions and ideas on how to adjust settings for better results - there's a lot to be learned.

Grande presença, muito obrigado pela força!

I like those catalog images. My husband takes those kinds of pictures for me, so I am entirely lazy about it and have zero knowledge. But they look good to me :)

That's cool you have your own secret forest for such experiments.

hahahaha I also have zero knowledge about photography, but it's not all that difficult in the beginning.

Isn't the forest cool? It's really quiet there, apart from some dogs that appear sometimes.

Congrats! You just reached the top level milestone via using Actifit fitness tracker and provided Proof of Activity!

Awesome, thank you.

You're doing great and the photos look awesome. I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Just keep shooting everyday. I learn something new every time I go out with my camera. I love it!

Thank you @jessicaoutside!

Isn't photography exciting? It feels just like playing with Legos on childhood, infinite possibilities. And the evolution? it feels like a couple little tricks change the quality completely, it's amazing.

@mrprofessor, these pictures look nice! You're doing great, really nice to see you progress and take a little step day by day. Join me with the video editing. Think our levels won't differ that much.

Ohhh yeah @guchtere, thanks for the lovely comment, but I'm still owning you a long expo photo for your birthday, remember? I won't stop until I can get it hahahaha

Yes I still remember! But don't worry just like a long exposure I can wait ;)
So better practice a little bit longer and create the long exposure when you feel like you did master yourself the technique.

But don't worry just like a long exposure I can wait ;)

That'll be a long exposure gift \o\

Nice try on keeping the bike standing on that catalog shot!
And using photo shop that stick is gone:

tada!

AHAHAH I gotta say that I really thought about taking the stick out. Now we gotta try this photo on a sunny day and then ask Scott for a sponsorship. \o\

You have a beautiful bike @mrprofessor!

Can you take me around Brazil when I eventually get round to visiting?

Are you up for long bicycle trips? I'm a broke backpacker so my travelling style can be quite insane hahahaha

I think I made my views on photography/photographers clear here:
https://steemit.com/poetry/@hyperbole/a-photographer-s-perspective
not begging for upvotes, not asking for follows, just thought you might appreciate it. I have a friend who's a hobbyist photographer, who knows far more about photography than me (and no offense, but more than yourself as well from the looks of things)

Nice writing, @hyperbole! Anyone knows more than me, I've only had a decent camera for a few days now haha.

Thanks for passing by.

Thanks, and thank you for a couple of excellent posts. I say a couple because i've only read the latest ones, no offense is meant to your earlier posts.
