What I've Been Doing Last Week

With the currently low price of Steem I was tempted to buy some and use it to Power up during the last week as it is a really good opportunity to power up now while the tokens are cheap... Unfortunately the side effect from the low price of Steem is that even with a lot of voting power your votes are not worth that much, I'm currently at a little of over 1 cent per vote at 100% voting power and that is with over 10000 SP. Another side effect from the low price of the Steem tokens that is in effect since a few days is the lack of post rewards being paid in Steem Dollars, currently post rewards are split in between liquid Steem tokens and Steem Power. This is not a bad thing for everyone that is willing to Power Up and there has been an option for 100% Power Up for posts for a while now...

The past week I have given Steem mining another try without much luck though, there has been a bug in the hashrate for mining on multiple threads since 0.14.2 that has been fixed. This has improved the chances of CPU miners finding a block, but the miner-witness queue is still being dominated by two users running private GPU miners apparently, so not much incentive for regular users mining with CPU to continue doing it. Not to mention the fact that while it is still hard to mine even a single block with the current low price of Steem it might be more profitable to use the computing power to mine something else, sell it and buy Steem with the profit than to directly try to mine Steem.

I have been playing around with the Russian Golos as well, currently in alpha. Since Golos is based on Steem's source code it suffers from the same issue - not being able to directly compile the source code on Windows and no official Windows binaries being released by anyone. So I have modified the source to compile on Windows and posted it and have also published a Windows x64 binary of Golos 0.14.2 for everyone that might need it. I have also posted these two on the Golos website, as a part of me testing it out. My spoken and written Russian is far from good, even though I can read it pretty well, so I'm actually not very active on posting there... Still if you are interested you can check my posts and profile on Golos here.

I have also posted something little about drones, a review of a small scale nano drone. A kind of short review based on my need for some USB 3.0 HUBs and my experience looking for what I need and what kind of fits my needs best. Also posted a bit about a 3D Printing project I have done to help a friend and played around a bit more with (3D printed parts with different filament types](https://steemit.com/usb-microscope/@cryptos/zooming-in-on-3d-printed-parts-from-different-filament-using-a-usb-microscope).

Five days ago I have also launched another bot-based project on Steemit, following in the steps of the @robotev bot that has been operational for almost a two moths already. While the goal of @robotev was to help new users posting good quality content on Steemit and I'm pretty much responsible for providing most of the voting power of the bot, though there are some small curation rewards and the help coming from people voting on the daily reports of the bot as well. The new project @crowdfundedwhale is a bit different in idea and design, but the goal is the same - supporting users on Steemit. For this project people invest into Powering Up the account and the bot operating the account votes back for their posts... it is kind of a long term investment that pays you back. To get all the details about the project you can read all the details here: Introducing the Crowdfunded Whale Bot Project

A bit later today the Zcash (ZEC) crypto should officially launch its main network and that includes mining of this new project promising real anonymity for the transactions you make (if you need or want to have it). There is a lot of hype and interest surrounding the Zcash project, so I have posted a bit of useful information about it and it has received quite the interest from users so far. If you are looking forward to the launch and still haven't read that post, then you might want to take a look at it - Ready to Mine Zcash (ZEC), But Are You Aware of the Initial Block Rewards
