Working according to plan

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

The picture is of my office this evening, that being a little room at the local library I sat in for a few hours after work to catch up on the work I need to do before the other work can begin. There is a lot of work to do but I am confident that if I spend the evenings and weekends getting my head around it, I will have a chance. I was just joking with @m31 when she asked how will I manage it all, Fake it til crypto moons.

The other day it came up as well. Would I keep the job if Steem suddenly turned around and I think that I would. It is not that this is a dream job for me (it is a good job by most standards), it is just that it can open up a lot of other gateways forward that are more interesting again and, would work in sync with my interest in Steem and blockchains.

Even while there is so much to do in the present, I do like to run myself ahead a little to see what possibilities and outcomes could lay up there that might be somewhat predictable to aim for, or avoid as well as the potential environmental changes like Steem taking a massive gain in the next bull run.

Regardless of price, I have been working very hard the last year and in many respects, the lower the price, the harder I have worked to earn some Steem. I have said several times that I see Steem much like a game, and I like to play the game well and to my own standard. I understand that not everyone is willing or able to do the same for various reasons, but that shouldn't stop anyone from making an attempt if they choose.

While I do see Steeming as hard work, it doesn't mean it isn't interesting or enjoyable work and I am kind of surprised how few people are willing to be here working for a potential future. There are still no guarantees, but if someone does want to try and improve their financial position in the future and potentially embed themselves into and leverage what might be a global game changing technology, Steem really is a no-brainer move.

I remember someone once saying to me something along the lines of, Let's see if you stay when the price is under a dollar... They were confused like many here of course. I don't earn dollars here, I earn Steem. And this is a good time to be in the pool earning. It is an even better time to be in the community building and developing too.

This is something that I am currently struggling with from a time perspective at the moment as I feel I don't have the time to put where I want. It will easy up once I find the rhythm but that takes time and patience as well as work in itself. I will get there though.

@organduo mentioned in a comment today about me putting a fair lot of personal experience into my content and how it helps make it ore relatable. I think it does because we all face various issues in our life and even if quite different in type or severity, there is still a lot of overlap.

This isn't the reason I include it though, the reason is that Steem gives me an opportunity to explore my own experiences and sort my head out so I am able to better understand. In some ways, it becomes like a shared experience, even if we have never met and perhaps, we all learn something from each other the more we interact. That is my hope anyway.

Tomorrow I have to give a two hour presentation on something of my choosing to show my training style and, my plan is to mostly wing it. What I find is that while I can prepare if needed, I am much better when I can respond to the participants issues directly. I have a couple exercises I am going to run with them to get them comfortable and then see how deep they are willing to go with a relative stranger in front of colleagues. It should be a bit of an experience for all of us.

As they say, experience is the best teacher and since we are going to be working pretty closely together, my plan is to stumble through an experience together, learn together and grow stronger together. When we come out the other side, I don't want them to have a new skill, I want them to have a changed outlook.

I think this is much like how I see Steem too. we are exploring a new world, experimenting and learning together and eventually, we will be stronger for it. The benefit here is that we are able to do it across many areas simultaneously and work in our interest areas or, where we choose to volunteer. I often find myself reminding people that this is an opt in platform, none are forced to come or stay. It is not a position of, if you don't like it, leave, it is a personal choice, it is empowering. I choose to stay.

I have seen quite a lot of people talking about what Steem isn't lately and I would like to change that narrative a little and instead encourage people to work out what Steem is to them. I think that this is the true power of Steem as it can almost become whatever someone wants of it as all it does is deliver multimedia content, what that content is and what medium is used is up to us, the users.

As the platform grows and more people realize the strength behind this simple idea, the more we will problem solve and get increasingly creative with the way we leverage the Steem blockchain to deliver what we want. Although we can replace it all and should, we aren't tied to what has come before us, we can take development, content, consumption and investment into a whole new direction and, own it all.

That is worth working toward.

To me Steem also gives an opportunity to live my life out loud. In the presence of other Steemians watching it's kind of diary to me, a way to organize my thoughts and actually create something that others would want to consume.

At this time, no other mainstream social media channel offers such engagement. I do have a training blog/podcast for organists but it is mainly a one-way communication as other organists as a rule aren't creators.

On Steem I get to meet other creators like me which is empowering.

Couple this with the principle that the platform takes care of monetization issue that today's bloggers face and you get a very happily addictive experience, at least for people like me.

I like this sentence.

this is actually how I see most social media, a shout into the void to see who will respond with some read receipt, a thumbs up or star.

You'd think more people would be itching to get here.

I think a lot of people forget that to make a diamond you need to apply a lot of pressure (effort). The things that truly matter in life don't come easy, but when you look back you glad you were there and fight for them. I am here to fight for steemit, the only platform that inspired me to post regularly and to befriend amazing people. I know that we are here to stay and to help it grow.

I agree with this. I don't care at all about the other 'popular' platforms. =)

This was also my first foray into committing to actually writing . (although that does seem to have supplanted a little lately, with my video editing 'stuff')...

Totally right about this one! Positive actions receive positive reactions. We all make Steem a unique place. We're free, we can laugh, we can share our worries, we meet people allong our way on the platform here.

I got the feeling since the start of the new year (btw I'm wishing you all the best for this new year @tarazkp!!) that things look a little brighter people are writing more positive content or I just want to see the positive things because it is my Steem experience 🤔

Let's make this year a jolly year with a lot of good content and where we can laugh with and at each other, have respect for other people while creating beautiful dapps and everything we don't have a term for yet, consume content and I can keep going for ages like this. Let's keep things positive!

Hang loose 🤙

New year, new hopes and dreams perhaps. Also, 2018 was so hard on so many they are hoping the number change will change the minds of the crypto gods :D

It is going to have so many interesting parts to it this year considering what is on the horizon..

Happy New Year to you too :)

Success in your presentation tomorrow I hope everything goes well
I like Steemit because you are your own boss and you generate the content that you like and as you like now we are little and the price is low but I know it will go up these things happen

There is a lot of freedom here and many paths to run along if game to try :)

You seem to work and post more than I do. Where do you find the time? :D

When I check my wallet and I have 20 Steem to claim it blows my mind. Of course, when I do the conversion down to $5 it doesn't seem like much... but when I first got here a year ago I would have been ecstatic to be tipped that much... and so I still am. 20 Steem is still a lot.

Very well said. I think people always see the grass as being greener somewhere else. I have experimented with other social platforms in crypto, but always find myself coming back.

If you're able to be qn early adopter on another platform that becomes very successful you can gain a lot of traction quickly, but I find the slow growth here has provided the best value and most fullfilment so far.

but I find the slow growth here has provided the best value and most fullfilment so far.

I tihnk the slow growth also brings a level of respect for the effort put in and therefore the platform/ people that fast growth might miss.

I can relate to this post a lot. I have a second job which I keep only because I hope it opens doors in the future. I also love it when you make the point that we are earning Steem not dollars here on Steemit! A dollar is a value losing investment as its value shrinks steadily over time. I think that the best thing to do dollars is buy goods with it as soon as you get it! And as much as possible choose things which are appreciating assets.

Obviously you need to buy food and shelter. But beyond that I think you should convert it from fiat to asset. If your saving your dollars in the bank your are probably losing money or value everyday unless your savings institution is a rare one paying you an interest rate equal to or greater then inflation.
Think about it.

I really feel you should keep only enough fiat for your immediate and short term needs and the rest converted to appreciating assets like investments of varying liquidity. Steem is one of my assets of choice for holding value.

I know it’s hard to consider Steem or Stocks or many other investment vehicle as an appreciating asset in a bear market. But you need to look at historical patterns not just today or even this year. Cryptocurrency, stocks, gold, diamonds all appreciate longterm. Early adopters of Bitcoin are still ahead despite the drop in price. We are earning an appreciating asset which can only be to our advantage in the longterm. That’s my opinion.

@shortsegments

P.S.
Pardon my manners. Good luck on your presentation. I think that your approach may bear fruit, as it will tap directly into your knowledge in a more personalized way for your students. At least that’s my hypothesis. I will be interested to know how it turns out. 🤔

I just saw this and thought you would enjoy it:

It is great that we can make it what we want and experiment along the way! This is what we will ultimately see as its potential as we can always adjust according to the needs and requests from our lives.
