The Steem News @ 4 April 2020 - Steem Fork Day
Today the majority of the top 20 witnesses released a softfork.
This softfork froze the funds of a number of large stake holders on the Steem blockchain.
The softfork has not been well received by a significant portion of the community.
A number of Top 20 witnesses who did not support the softfork have now dropped down the witness rankings.
1. Softfork 0.22.888
Around 2am UTC on 4 April a number of Top 20 witnesses announced that they were planning to launch softfork 0.22.888 in the coming hours.
The aim of the softfork was to freeze the funds of a number of large stake holders that 'threatened the security' of the Steem Blockchain...
About 11 hours later the softfork was completed as all top 20 witnesses upgraded to v 0.22.888.
The witnesses behind the softfork then produced a further post explaining their action in more detail and naming the accounts whose stake was being frozen - these are @freedom, @pumpkin, @blocktrades, @gtg, @good-karma, @roelandp, @steempress and @darthknight...
About 3 hours after the softfork took place, a post was put out on the @steemitblog account with the statement...
We would like to notice that Steemit, Inc., along with the Tron Foundation did not anticipate this [the soft fork] to happen and we would like to stay neutral regarding this situation.
A small number of the top witnesses including @blockbrothers and @dtube.witness who did not support the softfork lost the large vote from the @dev365 account and so dropped down the rankings into the 50's.
It appears the witnesses of @blockbrothers, @dtube.witness and also @steemchiller are not currently operational.
@blockbrothers posted their objection to the softfork...
As did a number of other witnesses and leading Steemians including @actifit, @eturnerx, @enginewitty, @gniksivart, and @abitcoinskeptic...
On the other hand a number of leading Steemians from the Korean community posted their support and explanations for the softfork...
@whatsup took a wider view on the softfork and questioned whether it represented another failure of DPOS...
@roelandp, one of the accounts frozen by the soft fork, has submitted a proposal to the SPS to get his funds refunded...
The proposal has so far received 1.12 M SP of support...
And in other news...
2. Green House Radio is back online
@greenhouseradio is rejoining the Canna Collective as the production and live interaction arm of @canna-curate.
GHRO will be putting out shows at least five days of the week with a range of hosts including @frankwhite, @jonyoudyer, @bluntsmasha, @qwoyn, @mraggaj, @queenofsmoke and @mondoshawan...
Witness News
The @roadofrich team are preparing to launch a Steem witness...
Witness @fuli (#64) is now running a lite API node...
Steem Proposal System update
The Steem Proposal System (SPS) today has a daily funding budget available of approximately 2980 SBD.
Currently @gtg's Return Proposal has been boosted to 90 million SP.
The nearest proposal to that is @yabapmatt's Steem Keychain development proposal at 21.7 million SP.
No proposals are currently therefore receiving any funding from the SPS...

I am feeling so sad. I have mostly moved to Hive, but kept curation trails and quite a bit of Steem power to back them, certainly out of curiosity about the future of Steem, if not loyalty. Wars and spite are poisonous. How can either blockchain thrive if the people we have voted in are warring with one another?
All most of want is a peaceful, friendly place to blog, curate, grow some stake and be in community. This is the opposite of that.
A harmonious and respectful co-existence would certainly be better for the health and prosperity of both chains.
