Waterproof
This image of a feather with waterdrops has been created by taking two pictures, identical in setup, but different in focus.
In the editing software both images were loaded, each on their own layer. I lined them up manually, some software programs can do this task for you.
To line them up manually, add a mask layer to the top layer. Then select the mask (white square on the layer, in the layer menu) and start drawing with the pencil. It depends on the mask you selected, which color you have to use to mask.
You should see the lower image show up in the spots where you started drawing. Most likely the part of the image that shines through doesn't line up with the top image.
Now you can start moving the lower layer around to make it match the top layer. When moving, it is best to hide the top layer, to prevent you from moving the wrong layer.
Once they line up correctly, you can finish filling the mask on the top layer with the pencil. Be sure to only draw where the bottom image is more in focus than the top image.
The beauty of using a mask is that you can easily correct a mistake. In case you draw on a part that turns out to be less sharp, just flip the drawing color and draw on that part again. The masking will be undone, and the top image will appear in that part.
