How Power Walks Can Totally Reset Your Day

Hi Friends!

I know we all find ourselves in funks sometime when we don't really have a good reason to feel unmotivated or discouraged - but we do.

I have a few things I like to do in those moments - one of them being power walks.

I actually found myself in one of these funks this morning. Lately I have been spending a lot of time studying successful YouTuber's and watching tutorials on ways to make my videos more engaging and higher quality. It's been so fun to practice things like moving around the shot, adding text, transitions, sound effects, b-roll, music and all sorts of things.

This morning though, I went from feeling inspired and creative to feeling totally overwhelmed that I didn't have good enough equipment, software, backdrops.... all the things.

I decided I wanted to do a reset on my energy and so I headed out for a power walk. In this video I chat more about this and why I think power walks are so effective for resetting your energy, adding extra motivation when you need it, and injecting a little extra intention to your day.

I hope you guys enjoy this video and all the fun little editing things I put into it! I'd love to hear from you as well. What kinds of things do you do when you find yourself in a funk and want a reset?

So you were in a funk because you were worried about your videos which lead to a walk to clear your head, which lead to a video about the walk, which reminded you why you were stressed in the first place, which lead to a walk to clear your head, which lead to a video about a walk about a video about a walk about a video, is that right?

Funnily enough, my I had to record a video straight after my run today because I was thinking of all the things and just had to get them on camera... so my run crowded my head and my video cleared it. Opposites!

P.S) Do you watch Answers with Joe on YouTube? I love, love, love his vids. You've both got a similar style of likeability and humour.

When you talked about walking to deal with these typical days, the first thing that popped up in my mind was Charles Darwin. I read a lot about him and knew he used walks in his daily routine too! I quickly googled this and this is what if found check it out!

In conclusion, your basically on the level of the great people (like Darwin) in this world ;p

Oh, and one more walk related experience in my life! Right around the breakup with my GF last year it was winter and suddenly I was living by myself. What I did in the evenings when I was alone? Walks... I just went out and started walking. No purpose, no route set out or whatsoever.

And guess what, every time I got back to my house I felt better! Walking just has something that helps clear your mind :)

Coffee first, always! Yeah, being out in nature helps a lot. I find myself in moods and exercise almost always fixes them.

P.S. Don’t compare yourself to others who may or may not have “higher quality” videos. Only work on being a better version of you than you were the day before.

I start every morning with a 30 minutes walk whether it be outside or on the treadmill! I happened to have a power walk today at lunch as I felt it was a great day to be outside. Breathing fresh air could be so energizing when you need to get back to your desk and work!

Wow what a great habit to start your day!! Right now I get up at 5 am for work - but whenever I’m free from the “cube life” I’m planning to start my day with a nice long walk too.

So cool that you also took a power walk on your lunch! I bet your Actifit reports are awesome.

That is why I am consistently above 10k a day! Getting SP and tokens for being fit! No way to deny the benefits either way!

I'm going to ask here because I'll forget later. There was a video you made a long time ago with a slow peaceful piano song over a camping scene that you got from a free tracks website. You told me exactly what it was when I asked then and I've lost where I put that info. I'm hoping you still know that website as a starting point, and then I'll figure out the rest. Oh man 2012... that’s throwing it back! 🙈 I kind of like it when people move around on camera, but I can totally see how that would start to get annoying and distracting! Maybe I’ll tone that piece of things down a little bit. 😂

Actually, walking is an activity that makes us very well. It seems that where you live the walk is more enriched by the landscape.

I really enjoy doing this when I'm at the beach. Walking in the sand watching the sea is something that helps a lot to deal with our thoughts.

I imagine you do that there.

Aww sorry to hear you were laid off! I imagine that must be pretty stressful. 😔 I hope you are able to find work again soon!

Oh, thanks for your kind reply. I have been laid off since October but I do Collect employment insurance but it doesn't pay that good and why now all my credit cards etc are maxed. E.I runs out in April so I hope by then I find work or my country property is finally ready enough for me to move to, then I won't need to pay rent any more lol! 😀

I totally agree with you! I have to walk a portion of my journey to and from work because where I live and where I work. I simply have no choice.

At first I thought it was an absolute pain. But over time it has grown on me. It gives me the opportunity to organise my day. I can listen to music or audio books. I get my steps in. It has gotten to the point where I have turned down rides simply because I value this time I get for myself compared to my busy busy life. After doing this for a while now and I would probably try to find a way to do these walks even if I didn't need to any more.

Taking walks is great! I work at home and sometimes forget about life outside of the screen so I try to walk outside for 30 min each day.
I also try to meditate daily for 20 min and workout for 45 min 4 days a week.
Clearing your mind with these activities actually is productive for your creative pursuits because your unconscious mind starts to work on these problems and ideas. Software engineers may be familiar with "hammock-dtiven development"
