Charlotte Morgan and the Great Big Math Problem--Chapter 8 The Bully (And the book is now available for preorder on Amazon.)

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

This is my next book.  It is currently being copy edited, (so there will be the occasional typo in this version) and I am having a few illustrations done.

I am including the tag #steemiteducation because I wrote this thinking like a teacher.  The characters use math and describe their math thinking as they work through problems.  I am a former 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade teacher, so I used my experience and background from those years as I wrote this.

Update: The book is now available for preorder on Amazon.  Click here to get it on Kindle.

Summary: Gavin Eggleston does not like the Number Investigators.

Gavin Eggelston is the third grade bully, and he lives on my street.

He doesn’t like the Number Investigator’s Club.  He makes fun of us all the time at recess.  He shouts “Math Nerds!” at us.  We constantly have to tell our teachers to make him leave us alone.  He once took my math notebook, and Mrs. King had to make him give it back.  He sat at the silent lunch table for that one.

Marcus climbed down out of the tree.  “Should we go over to his house now and tell him to give our stuff back to us?”

I shook my head, “Do you honestly think he is going go, ‘Oh, I’m soooo sorry for taking your stuff!  Here it is!’”  I batted my eyes as I imitated the fake Gavin.

“Maybe we can just go over and beat him up!” said Aaron

“Gavin is twice as big as any of us, and remember he has a brother in high school.  And I hear he is three-times as mean!” replied Marcus.  “ And I don’t feel like getting beat up this Saturday, or any day of the week, thank you very much!”

“Well? How can we prove that Gavin took our stuff?” I asked.

“I guess that is the Number Investigator’s next problem, proving that Gavin Eggelston took our stuff!” said Aaron.

“On Monday, we can find out what he did over the weekend.  Let’s see if he makes a mention of getting some new stuff, or climbing a tree, or something like that,” I said.

“And how can we do that?” asked Aaron.

“Mrs. King sometimes lets us ask the class or different people during our morning meeting questions about what we did over the weekend.  I am going to ask him what he did over the weekend to see what he says,” my brain was full of all the ways I was going to prove that Gavin was the one who took our stuff.

“We need to have a meeting to plan out how we are going to do this.  I have a game at noon.  It’s 10:30 now.  Let’s meet back here at 2,” Aaron grew more excited as he talked.

“I’ll call Sally and tell her to meet us here,” I replied.

Marcus put his hand out.  Me and Marcus followed his lead and put our hands on top of his, “Let’s Investigate!” we shouted.  And we ran off to our different houses.
