[βlog] Pickle-backs, Mead, and First World Problems** [Day Four: Seven Day Beer Challenge]

IBU

The International Bittering Units scale, or simply IBU scale, is used to approximately quantify the bitterness of beer. This scale is not measured on the perceived bitterness of the beer, but rather the amount of iso-alpha acids.1(14)

prologue

I’m editing the “script” of my day-two post (see list at the bottom) so hopefully this should go a bit smoother than usual...

Due to another silly work deadline that got thrown on me because hashtag-uppermanagementproblems, I ended up staying late at the office again.

Luckily I was hashtag blessed with coworkers that were willing to help me on the deadline and then, and even more importantly, willing to help keep each other company to eat and drink after.

I barely checked the crypto market today which proves that I was having a busier-than-usual day. Yesterday we had a snow storm so it wasn’t the most work productive day. And this morning I was obligated to, yet happily, shovel the cool half-a-foot of snow that fell in the last 24 hours.

the commute

The train I usually take in the morning was cancelled but that didn’t really affect my commute. When I got into Manhattan there was a CityBike waiting for me, with the seat adjusted to the right height and it was one with the new gear system. Zeus was watching over me closely today.

I worked late blah blah blah. Then went to a bar with friend(s) slash coworkers to eat slash get some pickle back shots. -Please save the questions until the end.- The choice of venue was between two bars. One that I’ve been to before and one that I have not. But the new have not venue was one that my beer-expert coworker knew about. And apparently the place has [goid] craft beers and food.

goid is a typo for good

So I ended having two beers and a mead. And a double-pickle pickle-back shot. Oh and an awesome pulled pork sandwich as well.

This was my favorite out of the beers. Ordered after I misunderstood the recommendation from
my beer-expert coworker. I don’t really ‘member the flavor specifically - something like crisp, full, sweet, but mildly bitter... I guess: “Mexican hot chocolatey”. It was also nice and cold.

Another “IBU” (20-40)” the meaning of which I don’t know [yet]. Feel free to explain below [nevermind]. This beer was not too appealing for me. I wouldn’t ask for a second. To put it into perspective, I later turned down a free pour of an IPA, that thankfully someone else in our party happily accepted. But it was time for one more glass...

monkey wrench: mead

Jersey mead.

It was full of flavor, very tart, with sweet undertones. I liked it but had to force myself to finish it.

picklebacks!! [2xpickle]

A shot of whiskey followed by a pickle juice chaser shot. In this case two chaser shots. The whiskey and pickle juice at this establishment were rather lacking. But, big butt too please, I love this combo and more so the chaser shot. Not exactly used as a chaser for me, but as an independently enjoyed libation.

Murky p-juice, prob not fresh, + jaymoh. I think beer two’s in the background

Editor’s notes:

I’m editing my day two post so hopefully this should go a bit smoother than usual.

Fail. I neglected to mention that I was doing the editing in the iPhone Notes app. Which is actually pretty awesome. Until you try to export or copy-paste a large note.
It is now the day after tomorrow.

Nominating @katerinaramm to partake in the challenge!

These are the rules:

  • You have to try a new beer every day, for 7 days
  • The beer must be something you have never tasted before
  • You must put a photo of the beer and write a few words about it
  • Nominate someone every day
  • If you are a social outcast with no friends to invite you just join the fun. You have every excuse to drink!
  • Use the tag "#sevendaybeerchallenge" as one of your five tags.

Sort:

hahaha, it felt like I was with you. Your description is very vivid!

I would love to take up the challenge but I am not sure I can due to practical reasons at this time.

Can I do so in the near future? Please Please Please

Still have not managed to do my 10facts1lie stuff

ps. And cheers of course!!

Glad you could join me on my adventure !

You can do it whenever and however you’d like of course :)

I’m clearly not following the rules. I cannot physically drink once a day and find the time to post about it too. That's also due to my own need/want to crate a certain style of post.

Pantageia!

Did I read that correctly? The third beer was 14%! Wow, no wonder you have to force yourself to finish it.

Great post. Hopefully you didn't have to work the next day!

Hahah it was a mead “wine”. So it came in about a six ounce stemmed glass... I actually did have to work the next day but I also think I did OK!

Thanks for reading and the comment :)

I enjoyed your adventure. Looking forward to new ones. I would a better sense of place - where all this takes place. Thanks. :-))

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading !
