Wednesday Walk through our Nation's Capital

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago (edited)

Let's step into the day for our #WednesdayWalk with @tattoodjay, and don't forget to check out his latest post here! It's a great way to get out and shoot some photos, see what you can see in a short distance. Look up and down and all around. You never know what you might be missing!

Do you look up when you take a walk
Leaving the sidewalk for a peek at the trees
Craning your head, chin in the air
Do you look up when you begin to talk
Remembering to ponder what you will see
As you take this walk, this walk with me
Do you look up when you take a walk?

The walk down to the Tidal Basin brings me in view of the Jefferson Memorial, a beautiful piece of architecture on the Eastern Potomac River. It is dedicated to the third president of the United States and is the perfect place for a cup of coffee and your thoughts any morning. I can see the cherry trees that surround the Basin, laying in wait for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, turning this town into a crowded traffic jam for a month. Oh, beauty!

Imagine the tree – no - two if you please, joined together at the trunk, radiant in the polished winter shine. The gift of persistent shimmering, day or night, unites no truth to the alteration of its reality.

Share their distinctive works of art — at National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.

Walk on up to Constitution Avenue, where you would almost miss the Sculpture Garden if you weren't looking, I would have to say that the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is one of my favorite places to go ice skating, it is never too crowded. That is a huge bonus in my book. It is also not what I consider your typical sculpture garden but rather a garden of sculptures. Just look at the tree. A real sculpture.

A little further down Constitution Avenue is the Department of Commerce... Its reason in life is to function as a Cabinet in the government that promotes economic growth, mainly by creating jobs. I got coffee this morning at Starbucks and the barista made it wrong! Oh, so wrong, but the world continued to function anyway. Always looking up because the sidewalk is grungy- and there is something remarkable just waiting to be seen.

When it finally came out to play, the sun, the sun, shone everywhere. As much as I love the sun, it's time to save up for another day.

"But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine" Thomas Jefferson — at Washington Memorial.

Color my world with #WednesdayYellow introduced to us by @Kalemandra. For what would life be like to live in a world indifferent to the palette?

A whisper left upon my lips
The shadow of night caressing my soul
The stillness in my heart, as the sweetest of dreams gently kiss me goodnight
Your loveliness will forever be engraved upon my soul

So the joy may touch your soul

There will be no regrets to escort the drizzle of this morn. Misty droplets falling from the sky, consigning my rays for a different date and time. The trees take a bow, courtesy of that perpetual swirl in the wind. It came, it went, it had its way. It shouldn't come back for the rest of the day — at looking for my pocket full of sunshine

Don't ever forget what wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, so we must try harder to give everyone the proper focus.

Later that night
I held an atlas in my lap
Ran my fingers across the whole world
And whispered,
"Where does it hurt?"
It answered,

"Everywhere"
"Everywhere"
"Everywhere"

So very interesting shots. I really like the one at the Washington Memorial. At first blush it seems so different. I mean the monument is meant to be white, but with the contrast it is in black...what a cool shot!

It's really funny because it is made of two different stones oh, and you can only see it during the day and only if you're really looking at it. It's true when I shot it that I was straight into the sun which is why I got the black shadow, but it was different then what I was going after but in the end I liked it. Cuz it was different. Thank you for stopping by and taking a walk with me on Wednesday. It's always a pleasure.

Indeed it is cool. As my man Bob Ross said, "happy little accidents."

Wow, the columns are majestic!! God's work!

I like the architecture in downtown Washington, DC. It lends itself to a Neoclassical style and is beautiful, in my eyes. Thank you for stopping in and for your awesome comment!

Have a most fabulous day!

Great shots. I haven’t been back for years, but I love DC. My son visits almost every year to spend time with his godmother who lives there.

Thank you so much! It's always a wonderful place to visit as most of the things that they have here are free to get into, including most of their art galleries and most of their museums. That makes a huge difference when you're visiting somewhere to know that there is no real money that you need to put out to be entertained. Thank you so much for the visit and I hope that you are having a most wonderful day.

Did you visit the Freer Gallery or the National Museum of Women in the Arts?

Thanks so much for the tip!

That tree sculpture is amazing! Love the architecture shots as well, but my favs are that yellow flower and the final photo with the water drops. Very well done, Denise. Voted & resteemed :-)

Thank you so much are you always awesome words, Keith! You sure do know how to make a person feel good about themselves. It's a gift you have.

Jefferson Memorial is an impressive monument and so is seen in your photos. Still, the tree immediately caught my eye. Like the colors that followed, your beautiful flowers, @dswigle!

The Memorials that they have in Washington, DC are beautiful and many, although I show very few. I have no idea why. Perhaps because they are every day and always there?

The tree in the Sculpture Garden is one of my favorite pieces. Fumy that you also like it despite the many beautiful pieces I show.

And color. Yes! I love to color my world with flowers. :))

You are so right! Thank you, Dan! @bluemoon

Well, I really didn't understand if the tree is a sculpture or a tree covered by the ice.

I am so sorry! The tree is a sculpture in the sculpture garden and it is made out of metal, stainless steel to be exact. It is a very amazing looking sculpture in person. I really need to go back and take a few different angles because it always looks different from a different View.

Thank you very much, @dswigle!

wonderful walk !!! sorry you didn't like the coffee. very solemn buildings! from them blows the fundamentality and history. tree sculpture struck me. Can you riding on skates!!!!! wow !!!!!!!

Thank you so much! The buildings are beautiful and I do love walking about downtown. There is so much power behind those walls. Sometimes it's scary thinking about it. How much control they have.

The coffee. That happens sometimes. As for ice skating, I have skated since I was probably 4 years old, so it is something that I have done my entire life and so it does not seem that big a deal to me. I did not roller-skate until I was 25 and did not realize how different it was. Thank you so much for stopping by and for always leaving such a nice comment.
