I'll be Walking on Wednesday
This post is for my #WednesdayWalk with @tattoodjay. If you post to this challenge, drop your link here. It has all the rules guidelines so that you can join too! Get your shoes on! We have a train to catch!
Opera anyone? Come on!! A show of hands!Who doesn't love opera?
We are taking a walk through Old Town in Virginia on our way to the train station to pick up a friend. I parked near the Opera House, which is only a few blocks away. The train station has parking, but then my #WednesdayWalk with @tattoodjay would be nonexistent. What good would that be?
The architecture comes from another era, many years ago. Like so many towns in Northern Virginia, you get a warm feeling walking through their towns. I am surrounded by towns like this and I love it. People are always amazed that the Washington, DC metro area has these pockets of pretty. I am always surprised at how small town some of these places are. I find it very easy to slip into life here.
There is so much that can be said for the friendly manner in which I am greeted when I go into the Post Office and see my people. I take in a plastic jar filled with candy for them. We are on a first-name basis now. It takes so little effort to be kind to people and extend simple courtesies. Wave to my Post Office workers. I bet you will get one back.
If you look closely at the right side of the building, you can see that it is a barbershop. Always has been. Since the beginning of time.
Take a gander inside. All the old-timers are here at this time of day, drinking coffee, kibitzing with one another. It is where they meet, greet and hash over their day. For sure they don't get their hair cut every single time?
We have only gone about five blocks, but, if you are like me, a nice cappuccino sounds like a nice diversion, a break in the walk. Slow down, you're moving too fast. We did the brisk run through town and now we will take it down a notch. We are running ahead of schedule. Let's pick an umbrella and take a seat. I will bet we can get a nice one here.
French Press, s'il vous plaît. I do like my coffee.
This is one of my favorite places to spend a moment or three. Oh, I love my kindle, but, it will never replace the feel of a book in my hands. I find myself still considering going to the bookstore instead. I love the smell, the very sense of it. I have brought you in here, once upon a time. It is pretty unique and doesn't have only books. Do they ever?
We are only a minute from the commuter train station from the Pavillion. In this town, this is the meeting place. Farmers Markets are held here, civic events...they even have ice skating in the winter. In the summer, I have spent many moments listening to the music floating through Old Town via the Pavillion. Lawn chairs are set up and blankets are tossed down in the area and suddenly, it is like a night out in the neighborhood.
It probably feels like we have been on this walk for some time, but we haven't even covered but a tiny piece of the downtown area. Maybe the next time, I'll shake it up a bit and do something a bit more exciting.
I love that they left this just like it was built, and still used today. Such a quaint little waiting area
And ... here she comes!
Thank you so much for joining me on my #WednesdayWalk. I had a wonderful time showing off what makes my day in this area. There is so much to see, so much to do and truly remarkable people to do it with. Life is good. Embrace it!
Love is all around you!
You can't have everything. But you can have a #WednesdayWalk!

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Because of you, I come back to post again and again. And remember always- kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.
I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.
they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?
i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.
later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,
"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

There is always so much charm to a small town. Yes it is so so pretty. Everything quaint and nice. Life in the slow(er) lane. Always seemed to make sense to me. No doubt there is more money in the big town, but like old John Cougar Mellencamp said, "I can breath in a small town". Such a nice looking day in Camelot, as always. A true picture of Americana right there. I love it.
Small towns are both the absolute best and worst. They offer the open friendships of few people living in an area and knowing each other, some their whole lives. They also offer no privacy on most matters which I see as a downer.
If something unfortunate happens to you in life, everyone knows and remembers. Oi!
Best friends are made and kept throughout life. Bonus. Good and bad. Not sure which is better. Small or not.

Thank you! I do love the Washington, DC metro area. It is so different than people really think it is. And if you get out a few miles, I would even call it downright charming. :)
Yes. You were meant to raise your hand! Did you? LOL, I probably should go back and fix it, but, maybe I will just leave it. Thank you so much and thank you for the tipu! I had a delightful Wednesday and I do so love your walkabouts.

What a beautiful post, @dswigle. I love the glow in the light this time of year. My husband has explained the science behind it to me, and it’s evidently all about the angle of the sun. All I know is that there is a lovely warmth to outdoor pictures in the fall!
Your train station pictures are fantastic. What a picturesque place!
!tip
I do so love the lower angle of the sun at this time of year, it gives such perfect light off. The glow! Yes! That is an excellent way of putting it.
It is an old train station and it is rather convenient to use instead of going into DC. Plus it reminds me of Hooterville in Petticoat Junction as there is a barbershop near and a hotel (actually B&B) and it is a quaint little town close to mine.
Thank you for stopping in and saying hello! You are always such a pleasure!

Short walk but so beautiful every part of it you almost feel like your in Europe 🌝
Oh, yes!!! But, it was long enough to get my #WednesdayWalk across! It would tire these poor people out if I made them go for a really long walk. Plus, I would bore them out of their skulls!
This isn't Thailand, you know! Nothing great to show them!
Hehe! Hey, it is always good to see you and thank you for stopping by and saying hello! Always appreciated! Have a great day, Angelo! @hangin

Red buildings are always fascinating to me!
I love brick too! It is very prevalent around here. Brick is made in a lot of the counties and is a cheaper way to build, although only if your town manufactures them! :)
Thank you for stopping by and saying hello!!!
!tip
We don't have much brick red building here, only a few. I don't know why they looks more attractive to me. 🙂

They're different. They don't build that many all brick buildings anymore. It used to be more common than what it was. Brick companies used to employ The Whole Town's, making bricks for houses and other structures. I personally like them.
