Military Veterans of Steemit Pushup Challenge

in #veterans6 years ago

When you're in the military, you are held to a high standard for physical fitness. Each branch has their own test for measuring physical fitness. In the Army, we do pushups, situps, and a 2-mile run. Each category is based on a point system. Depending on the number of repetitions you do for your age and gender will determine your score. It's been a while since I've done any pushups myself so I thought it would be fun to see if I could still meet the minimum requirements. For my age group I have to do 36 pushups.

In this video, I will challenge other veterans to see if they can still meet the minimum requirement. Record a video of yourself doing the minimum or maximum amount of pushups for your gender, age, and branch of military service. If you can meet the minimum, I will send 1 SBD from shadow3scalpel, and if you can get the maximum amount I will send you 2 SBD. If you can't meet the minimum, I'll give you one month to get back into the standards. If you have a shoulder injury, I want to see 10 minutes of cherry pickers!

I did it! I wasn't sure I could still pull it off, but I did!

Nicely done!

I'm honestly surprised I managed to pull it off lol. I really thought I'd struggle a lot more, though it wasn't easy at all.

To bad non vets can't participate.

That would be fun to do in the future if we had more funding.

What kind of funding does a contest like this ussually require?

It depends on participation. We usually give away 5-10 SBD in our monthly contests. The funds are generated by posting on our community account @shadow3scalpel and sometimes we receive donations from within the community.

I agree with @doomsdaychassis, I would love to participate as a non vet, not even for the money. Just participating in a challenge as such would be fun and a physical workout.

It would be awesome if you guys want to participate! I'll still upvote your posts.

I will upvote everyone that participates. My vote is not worth much (I ain't been at 100% SP upvote in a coon's age), but .03 SBD is .03 SBD!

I will give it a try.

How much does a 35 year old fat body need to do? lol

You're in the same age group as me so it's 36. Remember to keep your back flat and arms must bend til parallel with the ground.

You’re fat?! Forget I asked....forget I asked...

I’ll upvote you too if I see you doing push-up on my feed. Not because you’re a non-vet, but because you’re a COMedian. ;)

yeah that is what i was saying.

That's not to bad at all.

If you guys have a lot of smaller or newer accounts you may look into sending a couple SBD to @dustsweeper so that all the votes under 3 cents get paid out. I was surprised by how much I was loosing each week. It might pay for the contest on its own. @davemccoy and another witness put it togeather when we found out "dust " votes under 3 cents don't pay out. Dave also is part of @newbiresteemday. Just a thought. Usually for every 1 sbd I send in to dustsweeper I get about 2 sbd back in votes.

Using the #veterans tag would have been heresy for me so I did my best with the rest. I hope I did well, please let me know how many of my push ups were disqualified.

Cool challenge, thanks for doing it, this will be interesting for sure. :-)

Ok, brother! I will work on this. It will be cherry pickers from me though.
Message to all vets!!!
Let's show some support to the community and get involved. Hooah!

What is a cherry picker.?

oh, ok. I am from down south. they call those cotton pickers. I guess I should have just googled it. It is like saying soda or pop.

I guess Army cherry pickers are different, but this exercise demo above is what we called cherry pickers in the Suck (Corps). By the way, I lived in the south for a long time (stationed at Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC for many years). Also lived in Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and Florida most of my adult life. Tomorrow I will be heading to North Carolina to attend my grand-niece's high school graduation in Lenior, North Carolina.

On top of that, I was born and raised until the age of 17
in South Jersey. Guess I am a bit of a southern boy.

hey sorry this is the correct version of cherry pickers I had in mind -

My arms hurt already but I may give this one a shot! Seems like an interesting challenge. I've been out 6 years haha.

5 years out here :)

You look like you're in much better shape than I am haha. But I may try this one out. We shall see

I left the Corps 27 years ago and the Army Reserve 18 years ago. Joined the service 39 years ago (1979). So even though I am worn out, I am all in for this.

This is just what I need right now. I’m not a veteran, but a black belt martial artist.
I’m going to participate in the challenge in an unofficial and personal way, so not entering.
What’s the standard minimum and maximum for a 44 year old male?

The minimum would be 30 and a max score would be 66.

Thanks so much mate.

I served in both the Marine Corps and the Army Reserve. Since I am fat and old (Just turned 57 Sunday) I will opt for the push-ups (in the Corps we did a 3-mile run, pull-ups, and situps).

Going to check the standards now for the Army.

So according to the standards for my age (57), my minimum amount of push-ups to pass is five (5) and to receive a perfect 100% score I would need to do fifty-three (53) push-ups. Well, I will give it a go.

A 56 year old male would need to do 20 pushups to receive a minimum score of 60 points. Max would be 56 pushups. The link to the chart is above in the post.

I stand corrected. Looking out the wrong eye again.
