- Project name: The Curious Expedition

Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century.

This game brings to the players a chance to explore the undiscovered and mysterious places. To get success and be survived, the game players have to be very careful and clever to decide the right ways to solve the unpredictable tasks.

This is a rather difficult game. The game takes place over a series of 6 expeditions, each being larger and more difficult than the last. The goal of each expedition is to discover and explore the Golden Pyramid in each map, and hopefully bring back items to increase your fame and fortune.

- Translation's Reasons:

This project caught my attention when I was thinking of choosing the project to work on. It seems that Vietnam is a potential market for gaming projects. The number of players in Vietnam is increasing rapidly. However, the game market in Vietnam is underdeveloped and not diversified. There is even a lack of standard documentation to cater to gamers.
I want to use my translation skills to give the Vietnamese community a standardized document that is suitable for Vietnamese culture when approaching an international game.

3.Contribution Specifications

3.1. Translation Overview

This is the first translation part of The Curious Expedition. I picked the file about Apes Mod. The strings translated were mostly game dialogues.

In order to get my translation much better, I firstly spent my time searching thoroughly for the project to get myself an overall view. I reached closer to the new terms and tried to find them in the similar Vietnamese articles.

Moreover, there are lots of strings caused my confusion when choosing the matching words in Vietnamese. If I have kept them in the original meanings, the translation would not express the context of the whole files.

For example:
Example 1;

• We decided that these particular specimens were not worth the hassle and left for greener pastures. Emboldened, they sent a hunting party after us.

The problem: The idiom "Greener pastures" would create the confusion for the Vietnamese gamers if they get access to it in original words.
The solution: I read all the files to get the whole meanings, then I came back and translated this idiom.
The result: Chúng tôi quyết định rằng những mẫu vật đặc biệt này không đáng để gặp rắc rối và để lại cho bọn lính mới. Được khuyến lệ và tin tưởng, đám lính mới đã chiêu đã chúng tôi một bữa tiệc săn bắt thịnh soạn ngay sau đó.

  The problem: There are several words that have quite the same meaning when being translated into Vietnamese: Master/tamer/handler... To convert them into Vietnamese in the exact words but keep the right context is quite difficult.
  The solution: Fortunately, I asked for the advice from some gamers and my LM to seek the right ways to translate them correctly.
  The result: Chúng ta có thể sử dụng sự giúp đỡ của [Thủ lĩnh của những con thú và các chú heo chiến binh| chuyên gia huấn luyện động vật đầy kinh nghiệm và lòng trung thành của con thú |sử dụng kết hợp người thuần dưỡng thú với chú heo trung thành|một cặp chiến đấu năng động|sự kết nối hiệu quả] và chúng tôi đã chào đón họ vào nhóm của chúng tôi.
