Simple Android apps-simple flashlight

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

I’m back with what appears to be the final post in the simple Android apps series. It has been an amazing journey and I’m grateful to you that stood by me. Your feedback gave me the inspiration to move ahead. There are twelve applications in this series: I have previously written on ten of these applications. This post is the 11th application review. I will not be writing on the twelfth application except on demand.
In no particular order, below is a list of the applications I have covered so far.

  • The simple calculator application
  • The simple clock application
  • The simple contact application
  • The simple camera application
  • The simple notes application
  • The simple calendar application
  • The simple music player application
  • The simple gallery application
  • The simple file manager application
  • The simple draw application

You can find the link to each of the above application reviews in the link section of this post.

They have taught me since I was a kid that the world was full of darkness until God created light. The light itself is a source of growth to plants and all animals. I once carried out a biology experiment where I placed a young plant in a dark room. I later opened a source of light for the plant. I observed that the plant growth tilted towards the light. This goes a long way to show how important light is to living things.

During the day, the sun supplies us with natural light. This light powers our day-to-day activity. Most organizations work regarding the availability of illumination from the sun. The same does not apply to the Night. The night is when humans rest. It is a time when darkness takes over the country. A lot of incidents happen at night. The night has the highest rate of criminal activities. This may be because humans are more vulnerable at night than in the daytime.

Unlike the sun, the moon does not always reflect enough light to brighten the whole night.
Science has invented ways of having illumination at night. Electricity has also been a good source of illumination at night. To be on the safe side, it is important that everyone has a source of illumination while stepping out at night. A lot of dangerous animals also hunt at night and lacking a source of illumination can make you a victim.
It is because of these issues that I’m introducing the Simple flashlight Android application to you all.

What is a simple flashlight android application?

I may define the simple flashlight as an Android application that provides illumination in any Android device that is flash enabled. This means that the application will need to work with the inbuilt flash system.

Features of the simple flashlight application

Flashlight applications are always a simple application that should not have too many buggy features. This is because the user might have an emergency need for it.
Below are the features I enjoyed while using this application:

Excellent performance

An application like this needs to have a good performance score. Imagine feeling you are being followed by a snake, and your flashlight refuses to respond immediately when you tap it. I’ve found myself in some of these awkward situations and I’m proud to say the simple flashlight has always responded almost immediately I tap it.
So far so good, I have experienced no lagging or app crash on my device.

Good interface

An application interface says a lot about the project. The developers of this application did a good job in this aspect. The interface is easy to use and understand. Anyone can easily navigate and execute commands in the application with no issues. The buttons are visible and well arranged.

Colour customization

As usual, the developers delivered excellently in this aspect. I could change the text colour, the background colour, the app icon colour, and the primary colour.

Theme customization

I could also select between themes. The application has five theme options to choose from. I can edit the fifth one otherwise known as the custom theme to the user’s taste.

The stroboscope button

This feature allows the user to enable or disable the stroboscope option.
The stroboscope is the act of allowing the flashlight to flash intermittently. I could adjust the stroboscope speed through the slider. Sliding left reduced it while sliding right increased it.

Ability to turn on startup

I enjoy this feature most. This feature allows the user to enjoy the flashlight without having to switch it on. This means that the application automatically turns on the flashlight immediately after launch. This is helpful in time of emergency. I’ll advise everyone to leave this feature enabled.

Conclusion and suggestion

The simple flashlight is a good application that is worth checking out. It gives you light whenever you need it. The last commit from Tebbi occurred 8days ago. That means the project is still active and more features might be introduced.

I would suggest that the developers make plans to integrate a timer. I would enjoy it better if I’m able to make the flashlight turn off on its own after the expiration of a certain period.
The application is a good option for anyone who wants a good flashlight application.

Thank you for this contribution.

This is a simple project, but at the same time it's rather useful. I appreciate the fact that you decided to create a comprehensive blog post about this tool.

Your post is informative and well-illustrated with quality screenshots. I like all the information provided, however I have to admit that I wish you'd gone into detail about the key features described in your review. Regardless, you gave a succinct overview, and I think that the post contains all the necessary information.

That said, there were minor issues of style, but not to the level where it hurt the reading experience. I'd be happy to cite a few examples in a follow-up comment, if you wish. Nevertheless, your writing has improved a lot. Keep up the hard work, it will pay off.
