Simple Android Apps – simple music player

Welcome to my fifth post in this simple Android apps series.
So far, I have written on four applications out of the six applications in this simple Android application series. Below is a breakdown of the four applications.

• The first post was about an Android application known as 'Simple gallery'. The application enables users to view photos and videos.
• The second blog post was about an android application known as 'simple file manager'. This application enables the user to manage files which include copying, move, rename, delete and browse files on any android device.
• The third blog post was about the 'simple calendar' application. This android application enables the user to manage dates, events and set reminders.
• My previous post which was my fourth post in the series was about a camera application known as ‘simple camera’. This application is used to capture images and record videos.

So many people believe that music is the food of the soul. Generally, songs always have a way of getting to our emotions. It can help us feel better in times of needs, it can give us the inspiration to succeed in times of failures and can also help us connect to our creator in times of worship.
Most people are addicted to music, there is always a story behind every song.

I still remember when I had my first relationship heartbreak, there were few songs that kept me going. I listened to these selected songs day and night, the songs helped me go through those painful days. Listening to those songs unconsciously made me believe that people have been in my shoes, they’ve tasted that pain and they sailed through it in one piece.

It would be unfair to say that everyone listens to songs for the meaning or story behind the song. Some songs lack any positive story behind it. Many people listen to those songs without any story for other reasons. What makes those type of songs sell might be the video or the beatings. A dancehall song always has a way of making everyone derive joy by dancing to the sound of the song. That alone is a major factor when it comes to the selection of songs in my part of the country.

Over 80% of smartphone users have numerous songs in their device. This high rate of song listeners, therefore, means that there is a high demand for a good music player. A bad music player can make the user feel uncomfortable while using and this alone is a major challenge.
This post will be focusing on a music player known as Simple music player. In the end, you can decide whether to give this application a trial or not.

What is a simple music player?

A simple music player may be defined as an android music player with a lot of flexible customization and can be used to play audio files.

Features of the simple music play

An android music application is expected to have some basic features. Personally, I think the basic feature expected of an android music application is the ability to read and play an audio file.
Once an application is able to perform the said function, it is said to be a music player.
However, in other to be accepted by a lot of people, there’s the need for the music player developers to customize and make their own player outstanding. This can be done by adding features that will improve the usage of the application.
The simple music player is not left out in this quest, the developers have been able to add some features to enable the application to stand out from the crowd. Below are some of these features that I discovered while using the application.

Excellent performance

The main aim of any music player like I said above is to be able to read and play audio files. The simple music player has performed excellently well in this category. The application responds to command with speed. Changing songs is instant, unlike some music applications that are slow, buggy and lagging in nature.

User interface

An application with an excellent user interface is more likely to retain a new user. The user interface is the first place a user interacts with after launching the application. Unlike the previous simple camera application, the developers of the simple music player did an excellent job when it comes to the user interface.
The colours are customizable by the user, the play button, back button, forward button, repeat button and the shuffle button are well arranged for any user to see.
Unlike some other music players, they provided the seek button. The seek button enables the user to jump to any particular duration of the song being played.
The application is easy for any new user to navigate and engage.

Colour and theme customization

This has been a constant addition from this set of developers. As expected, the developers made it possible for users to change the look of the application through different colour customization.
The application came with four customized themes with an extra option that enables me to entirely select how I want the theme to look.
The application icon colour, the application primary colour, the background colour and the text colour are also all subject to tweaks by the user.

Equalizer

Everyone on the planet cannot like the same style of music. The music industry itself is made up of different genres. This unconformity in the music industry plus individuals different taste makes it hard for us to enjoy songs with just one type of equalizer.
Personally, I love more of Bass whenever I’m listening to any songs. That’s why I try as much as possible to get a good earpiece. The simple music player has given me options to choose from 10 different preset equalizers. The available options are:

• Normal.
• Classical.
• Dance.
• Flat.
• Folk.
• Heavy Metal.
• Hip Hop.
• Jazz.
• Pop.
• Rock.
  
  These options help the user to have a better listening experience.

Basic Customization

There are other basic features present in this application that's worth mentioning. These include:

• The ability to create and manage your playlist: My mood always determines the type of music that I listen to. This music player has really helped me to categorize my songs into a playlist that will best fit into any specific mood. I can’t imagine a love song playing during worship.

• The ability to sort music: The simple music application has made it possible for me to decide how my songs are shown. I can decide to sort by song title, artist, path, duration and also decide whether I want the result in ascending or descending order.
  

• The search button is well positioned to enable the user to easily locate a particular track of interest.

• The ability to access some basic commands from the drop-down menu.
  

Conclusion and suggestions

The simple music application has a pass mark from me. The developers have been able to provide all the basic functions that I require in a music application.

However, I will make some Suggestions that I believe will further enhance this application and make it more user-friendly.
My first suggestion is for the developers to integrate a song lyrics feature into the software. A lot of people are now moving to music players that can display the lyrics of the song being played. I personally love to read the lyrics of the song I’m listening to especially if it’s my first time.

My second suggestion is for them to add the custom option when it comes to selecting the equalizer. People like me would appreciate it better if we were able to choose how we want our equalizer to be. I love Bass but the application has no option for bass.
I believe this application will get my 100% score if they address the above issues.
