Harrison Road in bloom

in #travelfeed5 years ago (edited)

"Slow down and take time to smell the flowers," as the saying goes. So yes, I slowed down when I was supposed to be rushing back home. During one of my travel going home to the province, I dropped by along Harrison Road and took my time strolling by the side walk.

Session Road in bloom is the theme that Baguio City uses when the government closes Session Road down from vehicular traffic and turn in into a marketplace. Now I want to borrow the term for Harrison Road which is just the other side and almost parallel to Session Road.

Before we take a look at the sidewalk, let us look up to these beautiful flowers on lamp posts along the center island. I noticed that more and more streets in Baguio City are having these artificial flowers installed on lamp posts. I can't help smiling while imagining when all streets become as colorful as this.

I wish the cable wires are tidied up a little. 😊

During summer after the Panagbenga Festival and during peak tourist season, the city government allows flower vendors to sell flowers beside the sidewalk. It gives the local entrepreneurs the opportunity to expose their trades in a more open area with greater opportunity to attract buyers because Harrison Road is just beside Burnham Park where many local and foreign tourists leisurely enjoys the cool temperature of the highlands.

Sunflower. The flower symbol of Baguio City.

As I stroll down the lane, I tried to identify as much flowers as I can. I quizzed myself but apparently, I still have a lot to learn about flowers. I did not want to keep asking the vendors as I did not want to annoy anyone with my questions when I am not buying at all. 😃

Most of the flowers are arranged for special occasions. You may notice the garlands hanging by one of the posts and sidewalk fence. These are on sale during this time of the year when many graduation rites are being held. I am not sure in other countries but in the Philippines, it is customary that graduates, specially elementary and high school, are given garlands during their graduation as congratulatory gesture.

Aside from the garlands, bouquet of flowers are also certainly good congratulatory gift but bouquets are mostly given to birthday celebrators or to ladies during Valentine's day. The big difference of the bouquet during Valentine's day may be that it has roses more than any other flowers.

Some flowers are arranged in baskets and ready for table display or decoration. These cute baskets will be perfect for center or corner table, either during special occasion or during ordinary days as eye catcher.

While many flowers are already arranged either as bouquet or in baskets, many are also just as they are. These are intended for buyers who prefer to arrange the flowers on their own.

Across the road is a bazaar where you can buy different items from dry goods to footwear to kitchen ware and more...

Sometimes, it is really worth slowing down and appreciate the beauty of what are around us. If you visit Baguio City, have a walk down Harrison Road, take time to feel the cool breeze and smell the flowers. Then you can go straight to Burnham Park afterwards.

I always like to slow down and smell the roses. How wonderful life can be if we just take a moment and breathe...

All of the flowers are absolutely beautiful - stunning, in fact. The flowers all over the town made it so happy and there is color everywhere. I am familiar with buying flowers for graduation or even a dance recital. It is so exciting for the first time to get flowers from my dad on my recital growing up.

So much beauty in this post! Thank you and thank you for spending the time and effort photographing and making a post! It is so much appreciated!

I am glad that you are able to relate to the post while it is one of my challenges to "stop and smell the roses" most of the time. I'm learning and trying, though.. 😊

Thanks a lot too for your #MarketFriday initiative! 😊

" I noticed that more and more streets in Baguio City are having these artificial flowers installed on lamp posts."
Personally I'm happy that happens. I'd wanna see more artificial flowers sold on the streets (the purpose of which is to provide beauty), 'cos those who are selling natural flowers (without flower pots (and soil)) are just killing them (and wasting resources used to grow them) in my opinion.
I think it would be better if we see more flower seeds sold on the streets.

beautiful photos (especially the first one) )

I agree that artificial flowers may be more effective and even lower cost of maintenance for cases like these hanging on the posts. I wonder how hard it will be to maintain natural hanging flowers up there. 😃

Thanks for dropping by!

Burik.. hahaha in bahasa it means various colour, but we call that rose as Batik Rose😊 another wonderful journey in Baguio City @macoolette 😉 I'll ask all the flowers name to the vendors and buy one piece if I have to.. just to feed up my mind and heart out of curiousity 😂😂😂 you'd better not come along with me. I can be very hillarious about everything especially the beautiful one😉.

Yap, that is what burik means to us too. I can't find the right one-word for its English term so I just used it.

That's a good idea! Maybe I'll do that buy one piece each of the flowers that I don't know their names so I can bug the vendors and keep asking. 😝

😂😂😂😂 .. then give the flowers to the elder women you met on your way home😉
