Travel Pro Gear #8: Three Travel Pro Items You Need to be Travel Pro!

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hey there my Steemit friends! Today I bring you three more items you need to be travel pro! In this series I show the things I travel with. It's all I own. So each one is useful, important, and very significant to me. Let's get right into it!

This is my USB memory stick key chain. I got it in the US for a couple dollars through Amazon. I use it as a back up for very important files. Since I obviously don't travel with a printer or scanner, I put files on here that I need to print, sign, scan, and email or upload. I take it to a local copy place which are common all around the world except in the US and some other western countries.

So this thing weighs nothing, cost almost nothing, but is incredibly useful and valuable to me. I also like the swing hinge protective function that is has too. The little key attached to it is the back up to this lock that you see below.

This lock I bought several years ago while mountain biking 1,000 kilometer's through the Ecuadorian Andes Mountains. I arrived in the city of Cuenca and I was going to stay at a hostel for the first time ever for the social aspect of it. I needed a lock to store my stuff in the lockers they provided; so I walked down the street and found this lock for a dollar.

Long story short I was exhausted and tired after biking so long. I wanted to take an afternoon nap, so I lied down and tried to get some sleep. There were people coming and going, turning the lights on and off, talking loudly; an Asian couple who could barely speak English were trying to engage me in conversation while I was trying to sleep.

Normally I charge forty dollars an hour for English conversation lessons on skype or in Korea! Since listening to people speak broken was my normal job I was really bothered as I just wanted to be left alone and take nap. I was exhausted. This was all going on in the room I was "sharing".

I thought to myself this is nuts. I need some privacy and some space of my own. I took my bags, my bike, and my new lock and left! I went up the street and got a hotel! With all my years of travel I still have never shared a room in a hostel. However I may do so when I travel Europe this summer as I know hotels are very expensive in that part of the world. So I'm holding onto the lock for now.

This one is obvious. The headphones came with my 60 dollar new smart phone I bought in Mexico six months ago. They work great. I use them on airplanes, buses, occasionally in a restaurant too. I often download educational programs, audio books, pod casts and put them on my phone to listen to. Music to me doesn't hold my attention and entertain me like it used to.

Thanks for checking out what's in my bag. I hope I gave you some ideas for your next travel adventure. Until next time -Dan "World Travel Pro!"

Sort:

Though it is not in on a key ring, I always have a USB stick in the form an atm card in my wallet.

In the form of an ATM card. Nice! I'll have to look into that!

More under-rated items. If I'm travelling in places with okay data access then I don't carry a USB anymore - everything stored locally on my phone. I do carry a micro-SD to USB card reader just in case I need to have a USB thumbdrive. It's small and light though, mind you, USB thumbdrives are getting lighter and ligher!
The more USB devices I travel with, the more likely it is that I take a USB OTG cable. That means if I carry a thumbdrive, my phone can read it too.

Haha! I love how you always seem to catch my "Travel Pro Gear" posts. You can certainly relate. I also love how you leave the best comments on these posts. You are totally a Travel Pro Bro!

So things are going well for me here so much so that my father noticed my success and decided to join too. @yankee-statman. He does NY history, and baseball related posts. He could use a little encouragement like I did six month's ago.

Remember when I was testing out different kinds of posts. I don't even want to bring it up, I'm sure you recall my one and only "Travel Pro Quotes" I'm glad that was the one and only! lol

I'll be headed down to Peru in a few days. Been writing my brains out from a hotel in Ecuador for way too long!

Hope you are well my friend. Thanks for the nice comment and addition to this post. USB OTG cable. I'll have to look that up! Have a great day brother!

Mancora Peru! Leaving Tuesday Morning with a bunch of posts loaded up in steem auto, so the Steemit fun never stops! Thanks for your support as always my friend!

If you come to the UK Dan give us a shout. You'd be most welcome to stay with us in Brighton (Hove actually)! 😊

That is so warm and nice of you. I will certainly keep you posted. Hey good news I want to share with you. Other than Orland, Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, Quito, Guayaquil, and Galapagos. I've barely been traveling over the past few months! lol

But the good news is I've got like 30 travel posts back logged from here in Guayaquil Ecuador, and over the next few days I'm hoping to get that number up to 50! So then I'll finally be able to travel freely south to Peru and further without stress of keeping up writing my blog posts so much.

So come May I'm heading back to Florida to visit my Dad for a week or two....then to Europe! So I'll certainly keep you posted. Thank you so much very much for the warm welcome. I'll certainly take you up on it if I find myself in the UK. Lot's of planning will have to be done, but I really enjoy that. Talk soon. -Dan

If you get to the UK in May definitely come to us first. There's a massive festival on here for the whole of May (second only in size to Edinburgh) that would be a gold mine for your articles. Look it up on the internet it's on every year.

We've been to some really wacky brilliant shows just because we happened to be walking past. We go mostly to Fringe stuff.

Then there's loads of stuff in the streets and Open Houses which are great fun.

I'm making notes....literally. Thank you :)

Your Tour and Travel ideas noted and will contact u when we will go to Europe.

Sounds like a plan! Thank you!

Hey Dan, didn't know you come to Europe this year! If you come to Switzerland, let me know!

That country scares my "budget!" lol. But I'll certainly keep you posted! Thanks for making me feel welcome there :)
