A Visit to the Barcelona Pavilion by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

I found these photos on an old roll of film and wanted to share them with you all today. I totally forgot that I took both a film and digital camera on a recent trip to Barcelona in the summer months, but I especially liked how these turned out as I think the grain compliments the shadows striking the stone very nicely.

I have been to Barcelona many times before but had never quite made it to this Pavilion, which is a shame because it was a real pleasure to walk around and photograph this space. Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929, this building in many ways is an icon of modern design and is a point of reference for any architecture student.

This building was part of the International Exhibition taking place at the time in Barcelona, so after the closure they disassembled the whole building but later decided to reconstruct it to the original plans in the early 1980's. Now this building sits on a permanent site near the National museum.

Material wise Ludwig used glass, steel and four different different types of stone, the glass and steel working together to open up the spaces and create a piece of architecture that feels very free and honest. I hope you like these images here and will read more about this wonderful building on the link below.

Dang, I didn’t know about this pavilion. Definitely must visit it next time I’m in Barcelona, looks awesome. Especially considering its age.

Yeah, it's an old design but they were true to it when they rebuilt it in the 80's. Definitely go next time for a look around :)

Indah sekali foto-foto anda. Terima kasih sudah berbagi. Salam

Awesome photos! I love Mies’ (as my professors used to love to refer to him by his first name) style for the most part. I’d love to visit this one day. The materiality of this pavilion has a similar feel to the other things things you’ve been posting.

What film camera do you use?

Hey @hrissm. Thanks for the comment, really appreciate your support. I have a few film cameras but I mainly use the Pentax LX or the trusty K1000. Recent photos are the Fuji X100T.

Cool man!

Very fine architecture, very well presented.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.
