Why earn miles for shopping?
These kinds of Deals could be very valuable if you have expiring miles (i.e need an activity) and one activity would extend your miles another 18 month. I usually transfer some Hotels miles over to extend my United miles but you could do it using the Shopping portal. But getting 1500 Miles for buying stuff you might have to buy anyway is a great deal on it's own!
