Why did the sloth cross the road?
Well, I'm not actually sure.
In any case, I have a few cute pics of one doing so.
Earlier today I was browsing Steemit, still trying to get to grips with it as I'm so new, and came across @thomasjmitchell's post called "Sloth in the middle of a park!".
This reminded me that back in October, during a trip to Peru & Colombia, I had the fortune myself witnessing a similar experience: a sloth cross the road.
It all came about because I'd taken my drone (a DJI Spark) with me to Peru, brand new at the time, and given it had caused me so much grief at customs I wanted to ensure I had as much air time and footage as possible.
One day, in the jungle area of Puerto Maldonado, on my way back from filming some footage of an abandoned playpark/holiday resort (footage of which I'll share at at a later date), I just happened to walk past a cute little sloth crossing the road.
Anyway, enough about me, here are a bunch of pictures I managed to snap before it climbed up its tree.
A little bit of research tells me it appears to be (from what I can tell) a brown-throated sloth or Bradypus variegatus which grow to between 42 to 80cm in length and weigh 2.25kg (4.95lb) and 6.3 kg (13.9lbs) and lives at altitude in Central America/
It's distinguishable from other types of sloth because its face is paler than the body, it has a dark stripe of fur beneath the eyes and a short tail.
One thing I did note, funnily enough, while it really took its time crossing the road, it was a pretty fast little climber.
