Visiting Portland, Oregon! (Smallest park in the WORLD, Japanese garden, largest forest park in USA, and other cool places)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

As I mentioned before in my previous post, Portland is famous for amazing forests, parks, and beautiful waterfalls. This is the post about these places.

I went to Portland this Spring. One day was very cloudy, another day was rainy, but later got very sunny. The weather is very unpredictable there during Spring and Fall.

First, we went to Portland's Forest Park, which is the largest urban park in the United States. It has a Wildwood Trail that is about 30 miles. We did that hike and I think it was a pretty amazing. This forest is beautiful! Moss is everywhere!

Some Limax maximus (leopard slugs) were chilling on wood. Some people might think they are disgusting, but I find them very cute.

Later, we went to Pittock Mansion, house of Oregon’s influential family. On the way to the house we passed a lot of cute houses. I realized that Portland's residential neighborhoods look like botanical gardens.

Pittock Mansion was built in 1914. Henry Pittock was an owner of The Oregonian newspaper. When Henry Pittock arrived to Portland in the 1850s, Portland was a muddy village, isolated from the rest of the United States and the world. He went on to build an empire incorporating real estate, banking, railroads, silver mining, steamboats, sheep ranching, and the pulp and paper industry. Georgiana Pittock (Henry’s wife) became a founder and fundraiser for many charities and cultural organizations.

...and this is some very unique shower. A lot of knobs!

Also, we went to check out the smallest park in the world, called Mill Ends Park!

Near that park we found a place to rent four wheel pedal bike that looks like a golf cart. It made our day!

Another thing that I recommend is to check out Portland Art Museum. They have some very famous paintings.

I thought this painting is kind of funny because the guy reminds me of Vladimir Putin.

Near Portland Art Museum you can find a Theodore Roosevelt statue in the South Park Blocks.

If you go to Portland you must visit their Japanese garden. It is very peaceful and beautiful. Moss is the artist here!

... and this is Multnomah Falls, about 30 minutes away from Portland's downtown. They have numerous hiking trails and many more waterfalls! This is something I am planning to do next time I go back.

In my previous post you will find a lot of great restaurants to try and pictures that will make you hungry!

Wow, looks like a really amazing trip. I never had a chance to visit Oregon actually, but I would definitely love to do so - I see, that you also heave somereal beauties alongside you, hah - that must have made the trip even more worthwhile ^^ As I'm planning my trip to the United States this year, hopefully I will also be able to visit Portland and check out this park ^^ Definitely would be an amazing experience, cheers )

yes, you should definitely visit Portland if you like beautiful parks :) Where are you planning to go? what cities?

Yes, I've been to Portland several times -- and I recall the #BEAUTY of Multnomah Falls [the area is so lush & green ]. The falls are huge in volume.

Used to visit my cousin there. She has left there now, yet I have wonderful memories of the museums, the #Art, the restaurants .. and of course visiting w/ my smart cousin (Sylvia).

Love your imagery here ! Great spot to #TRAVEL to

thank you :)
