Every time I see one of the amphibious one drives by, it always make me smile with a funny kind of feeling. How does a modern city like Singapore get these massive monster on the road. We have been told we are a land scarce nation; cannot have too many roads and cannot have too many cars. Yet we have this massive “Monster Duck?” on the road. My impression of amphibious vehicles are like the ones you see in the movies for marine to land assault.

It was quite a long time back when I first saw started seeing these. I remembered it was a kind of tour that brings you from land to water. I’ve never been on one so it’s time I learn a bit more about these tourist attractions with an “s” because I understand there are two companies operating that now.

Comparison | 比较

Looking at their different routes and the pricing, I cannot really tell which is better. Price is one thing but both routes differ quite a bit anyway. If you just look the adult ticket price, $37 for Duck Tour is more expensive then $33.90 for Captain Explorer DUKW Tour, plus the later has an online discount bring the price to $31.90. If you are from outside Singapore and plan to visit other attractions, you should also check their websites for bundle deals.

Lesson 1 learned | 从中学习-1

Browsing through the website from the two tour operators, I learned that both have them operate amphibious vehicles from Vietnam War era. I have to take closer look to see if they are the same next time I see them.

Lesson 2 learned | 从中学习-2

What I learned is to do your research and planning before your travel to save some money. Even if you are going your own local attractions, there should be cheaper alternative than queueing for tickets at the entrance. Plus, you save some time eliminating the queueing for sure.
