Let The DJI Mavic Pro Fun Begin! Fancy Drone Shots Coming Soon 🔫

As men get older, the toys get more expensive. - Marvin Davis

True story, Marvin. But who would prefer missing a toy opportunity instead?

I've been flirting with a drone for months. The idea of flying over the volcanic surface of my island and producing some stunning wide angle shots has been keeping me on tenterhooks like nothing else did.

Today I just couldn't stand the temptation anymore. After watching the Steemfest² Aftermovie that includes some really fancy drone shots I didn't have any further arguments to stay away from it.

By the way thanks for your tips and recommendations regarding flight permissions and stuff, @timsaid! They're much appreciated. Before getting the bird ready, I'll be perfectly prepared and equipped :-)

Here's to the importance of spontaneous purchase decisions!

My new baby: The DJI Mavic Pro

Who said that big presents can be only given by Santa Claus?!? 🤑

I spent the last two days doing research about drones.

Once I've decided on purchasing something, there are few things that could actually stop me :-) What I definitely do before spending huge amounts of money, is informing myself well about the whole range of products in the market and their pros and cons.

According to my research, DJI seems to be the market leader in easy-to-fly drones, offerering THE state of the art products with their Phantom and Mavic Pro series.

A big advantage of the Mavic Pro is its compactness. That was a killer argument to me. When I go out in order to film something, I really don't want to carry bulky and heavy pieces of tech around.

A good drone is going to cost you.

That's been at least the title of pcmag.com's article called The Best Drones of 2017, published on the 17th of November 2017 and being one of my sources of inspiration in this context.

Well they're spot on.

I spent a bit more than 1,100 Steem on my DJI Mavic Pro, including the shipment.

What I expect from my new toy? A lot of fun and some new angles!

Since I've started to shoot videos with a GoPro a couple of months ago, I feel a constant need to further develop and deliver new visual experiences to my audience.

When people started to blog post about their drone flights on steemit, I knew that this was supposed to be my next acquisition.

I mean my island is simply perfect for such purpose.

A lot of international movie productions have been shooting here during the past years for a reason. The volcanic landscapes and the natural beaches in combination with the rough and dark blue Atlantic Ocean provide uncountable themes.

Imagine my drone following me while I catch some waves - wohoooo! OK, that's Kelly Slater, but you know what I mean, haha :-)

Can't wait to try!!!

Now that Christmas is close and treating oneself comes especially into focus, I thought it could be a good moment to receive a new tech member in the family. Well done, Marly!

You have to treat yourself every once in a while, get to the fun stuff. - Heidi Klum

That's the mission, Heidi.

Be good to yourself, steemians! We really need to indulge and reward ourselves constantly. Life is short and who knows where the BTC price will be at tomorrow :-P

Best, Marly -

Thanks for your valuable time!

Hell yeah! That’s awesome. It’s definitely important to treat yourself! After watching @timsaid and seeing the results in his STEEMFest after-movie I too would love to buy a drone! Perhaps in the near future...

That's what happened to me! I just couldn't resist anymore :-)
Tim should be paid by DJI!

Ive got the same drone and I bought it on a whim just like you for a trip to the mountains. Brought it with me on the actual climb....and then... I FORGOT THE MEMORY CARD! So it was just dead weight in my pack. A month later, I realize that it saves a copy on your phone. Not 4k, but 1080P which is what i shoot in anyway!

I love mine, but it finds limited use :( I will say that you should follow dji on instagram, they constantly put out new videos on how to work different functions in it. I dont usually have the time to seek out all these crazy functions, so i like it when someone tells me it exist!

Enjoy it!

Oh damn, thanks for sharing this experience! That will help to not make the same mistake :-)

Sure, you'll make the best out of it the more you get involved. The same happened to me when I purchased my GoPro. It has a lot of functions I studied in the beginning but then actually didn't really use again.

Your citations are always stunning:

As men get older, the toys get more expensive.

But what about girls? And I seem to be an exeption: I'm not interested in expansive toys, cars, computers.
I like fresh air, clear water, interesting books and conversations with good friends.
But one of my best current toys ist steemit, you know?

One of my best current toys ist steemit, you know?

Isn't steemit the most expensive toy of all (calculating the time spent... :-))?

I'm happy you enjoy reading the quotes. Actually it always takes me a certain time to find 'the right one', so it's nice to see that someone appreciates the efforts ;)
Maybe men here stands rather for human being and not for male. Also I'm a girl and love toys - so I'm at least the exception of a rule.

Thanks for stopping by my friend! :) Enjoy the fresh air and the clear water, that's definitely not a bad choice.

Great one. I have the dji spark and although it has lower quality camera, recording on SD when it is sunny, it is amazing. The light is important as with GoPro. Learn how to fly properly, I landed in a riverbed and had to use my climbing gears to get it back. Took me 50 minutes to climb back! :) by the way next week I am going to Taghazout, Morocco and I am sure I will use my drone there! Have fun with it

Oh dear! Yeah, I'll definitely practice on easy grounds first :-)

Enjoy your tour to Morocco! Hope you'll report about it on steemit.
Following you now

I bumped to this specific drone yesterday as I search for mid-range drone however, here in Philippines that drone is my 4 and half months minimum salary huhuhuhuhuhuh...

I pray for new... good and inexpensive drone next year.

They're extremely expensive, no doubt about that!
Here on the Canary Islands it's more or less equal to 1 monthly salary - so less that at your place but still enough :-)

Crossing my fingers for your saving plans though.

Praying I will get something like that soon.
Thanks a lot. I bid you more blessings!

You can get other options, id say look at the parrot or the DJI Spark. That will half it. But before I even say that. The vast majority of people buy it as a toy. Sometimes 4.5 months salary is better spent on something else! Like a class or simply just to save for a trip to a place where you can use your regular camera!

Thanks for that piece of advice @motoengineer

Great minds think alike! Mine arrives tomorrow or Saturday. I look forward to learning along with you. Just like you, watching @timsaid at steemfest was more than I could let go, so Santa is stopping by early.

Yay! Then we can learn together :-)

I received mine today -

Ahhh I've been debating the very same thing regarding the necessity of a drone ;) can't wait to see your opinion and shots with your new toy - especially those bird's eye view photos while you surf! Love to hear what you think about operating the drone.

the necessity of a drone ;)

Well, I'm not sure if it's really something 'necessary' :-) Mostly you buy toys for fun reasons and to somehow entertain yourself. I think this one is a win win, since both you (as the director) and your followership (as the audience) will benefit from the quality of images.

Of course, the results will be presented on steemit!

I would love to see side by side pictures of the drone above you while you surf and a GoPro mounted at the end of your board. I feel like that would give a whole 360 experience! Congratulations on your new toy. You deserve it :)

Thank you so much!
It would be huge filming in the water. I have to check the permissions first. Also I need to practice with the drone before flying over water :-)

Of course. My friend lost his drone to a waterfall. Luckily he had a less expensive version as his first one but that is definitely a risk. Would you be controlling it as you surfed?

Perfect machine, that will sure bring you nice vids, looking forward for what this drone is capably to.

I won't leave you in suspense :-)

Cant wait :-) Hope summer is back soon ;-)

I love my Mavic Pro. I have posted several of my videos and pictures. It brings a new perspective to photography and is fun to fly.
