Travel - France - Paris Part #6 - Sacré-Cœur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart)
Our highlight in visiting the 18th arrondissement of Paris was definitely the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, one of the most beautiful Roman Catholic churches I've ever seen. The church (or minor basilica) is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and is situated at the summit of butte Montmarte - the highest point in Paris!
After visiting the Moulin Rouge, we walked through Montmarte Cemetry, slowly making our way up the hill. We passed a number of awesome smaller parks and, of course, artists. Montmarte is famous for its street artist and there are many places where artist would paint you for a few Euros. In fact, a number of famous artists actually lived in this area in the past, including Dali, Picasso (we saw his house) and Braque.
There was a service in the church so we decided to not go in. We simply stood admiring the view of the city from this epic landmark and then walked down to catch a train to our next Paris destination!

I was in Paris this summer and also visited the sacre cœur basilica, and it was really stunning! It looks even more majestic from down the stairs and the view over the city is also quite impressive!
When we went there, there was a piano standing there and some random people played, that was very beautiful :)

Nice to see these pictures! It brings back memories from my teens when I visited Paris with my parents. In fact the Sacré-Cœur was subject of my very first photograph...

Thanks! At that point I had already visited many museums like the Louvre, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum etc so I guess I had developed a natural eye for composition and framing :)

The Sacré-Cœur is my favourite place in Paris, maybe its because I went there on my first visit to Paris with my ex !

Paris was also the city (outside of South Africa) I visited with my wife... it now has a special place forever in my heart. ;)
